replaced the front brake pads on my KJ.. they actually werent that bad.. the back side were worn more then front.. i got this brake pad spreader that you can use one hand and it took me less then 5mins per side.. actually took longer to jack and put stands and remove tires then actual pad installation.. if you want an easy tool.. i mean i could of used c-clamp but this works great..
imma do back next week.. any tips on the emergency brake? i read the 'how-to' in tech section.. my front brakes were a lil different then the pictures.. but was easy |

That is one of my favorite tools. Easy, one handed operation and works great. Speaking of brakes, time for me to do my front ones soon too. What pads did you use? I need to go shopping to see what is available. |

just hope you cleaned the brake pad sliders really good and lubed them if your getting uneven pad wear. If the front is thinner than the back more than likely the sliders are dirty and not allowing them to completely compress to the brake rotor. When that happens you have the pad that is sliding properly overworking and wearing more. Just my experience. Parakeet |

Parakeet Maybe he meant the inside pad and not the back side of the pad. It would be normal on a single piston caliper for the inside to wear a little more. If it is actually wearing one side of a pad it could be what 4wdParakeet is saying. Among other things. |

I was talking about the inboard and outboard pad. If the wear is greater on one or the other more than likely the brake dust has built up on the sliders. Take a wire brush too it and lube it whenever you rotate your tires and that problem should be gone. It's a fairly common problem with the jeeps. Parakeet |

BTW, I got mine at a local parts store. I have seen them on the tool aisle of Pep Boys, NAPA, Auto Zone and Car Quest. It is fairly common in most stores. IIRC mine was around $25 also when I bought it a few years ago. |
