"How annoying is the evic with rims that don'thave tire pressure monitors?" I have an EVIC and I'm switching to Rubicon wheels/mtrs - of course those do not have tire pressure monitors and getting new ones cost 50 pops ea. hasanybody dealt with this before? Any advise? |

Quote: "How annoying is the evic with rims that don'thave tire pressure monitors?" I got a chime a few seconds after start up and a message on the evic about low tire pressure or missing sensor. Hit a button and it went away and didn't come back til the next start up. This is on an '04 evic. hasanybody dealt with this before? Any advise? I've done this and it works. If your KJ came with an evic i'm guessing you have alloy rims; steel rims supposedly block the signal sent out by the sensors. In that case you can just transfer your sensors to the rubicon rims. EDIT...should have looked at your sig, since the renegade are alloy, it should be ok to use the sensors you already have with the new rims. |

Got any details on how to remove / reinstall them? Do they fit most rims? |

I don't want to hijack your thread but since it is on the same topic I thought I would ask.... What about switching from 06 TPMS sensors to 04 TPMS sensors? I might be installing an 04 EVIC and would like to take advantage of the TPMS sensors... I have the sensors installed in the tires and supposedly there is a dummy light that will come on to tell me there is a issue... what i am wondering is if I do go ahead and install the evic will there be any issue with switching to the 04 TPMS sensors?!? I mean will that cause any issues with the setup in there now a la the dummy light... dont want to get sensors to match the evic if it is just going to cause issues with the existing system... Or is this a case of just re-training the sensors after switching to the 04 ones? Or even better does anyone have an 05/06 evic they want to sell! heh heh |

Quote: Got any details on how to remove / reinstall them? WJjeeps.com has a ton of info on the TPMS system including how to put on/take off the sensors, here is the link to the page: http://www.wjjeeps.com/tpms.htm That being said, i don't have the knowledge or equipment to mount a tire, balance it etc, so I went to NTB and had them do it. They only charged a few dollars more per wheel because of the sensors. As far as if whether they fit most rims, here is a quote from the same page: "It appears that some of the wheels used on 1999-2001 Grand Cherokees are incompatible with the tire pressure valve/transmitter stems, due to a larger ridge which does not allow the stem to seat properly. This has so far been confirmed for the Timberline wheel used on 1999-2001 Laredo models. A 2001 Laredo owner used an angle grinder on his Timbeline wheels to remove a 1/8" X 1-1/2" area of metal, which was at the outer edge of the ridge away from the bead/seat area. This allowed for the sensor to mount flush against the wheel and align perfectly with the valve stem hole." So i guess even if it doesn't ft, they can be made to fit if you want to do some altering. Again, something i wouldn't try on my own. Quote: What about switching from 06 TPMS sensors to 04 TPMS sensors?

Using the '06 sensors with the '04 evic probably isnt going to work from what i've read. Read this archived thread from jeep forum...somebody got the runaround from their dealership because they got '05 sensors when they needed '04 sensors: http://65.42.106.152/forums/archive/ind ... 32205.html Everything i said is just from stuff i've read, you could test it out kind of easily to doublcheck all this. run some temporary wires from the evic to the datalink connector and fuse box and see if the evic can see the sensors. That's how i tested my evic before i started running wires down the A-pillar and cutting headliner. |

You can get them re-calibrated to fit whatever system you have in place, so I'm told by my dealership...the existing ones....as far as I understand. When I got my MT/R's put on, the dummy light on my dash came on, and stayed on for two months, because of the tire size change, I thought it wouldn't because the tire pressures are similar.....anyway, I took it to the dealership to have my right front shock replaced recently (squeeky and dead) and the the dude at the desk said that he'd noticed the light on the dash and "re-calibrated" the TPMS on the wheels to match the new tires. No charge....for the shock, alignment, and TPMS....all on warranty?! Even though he shook his finger at me 2 months ago for putting the lift on and told me that doing warranty work on the suspension would be a problem.....I think he was just saying it to be heard, and ignores the fact that its lifted? Who knows who cares.....sorry to hijack....I digress, please, continue |

just talked to manager at Dealership.... plain and simple, they will swap the sensors - which is the stem valve - of each old stockersand put them in the new Rubi Rims - he said it will work with no probs and he gave me a guarantee. I'll be picking up my new rubis sat am and get them put on that sameafternoon - I'll post pics and also see if this actually works. Later.... |

it should definately work, if you get any messages from the evic, it's most likely because the dealership didn't take the 5 mins to retrain the sensors. Good luck on saturday, looking forward to the pics. I know i went from being lukewarm on my KJ really liking the looks after i put the rubicon rims on. Shadow...i returned your pm, did you get it and were you able to open the files? |
