OK. I was going to sell my 05 Renny but was talked out of it by many. Now at 33K mi. the check engine light has come on 3 times in the last 3 weeks. Of course right near the end of my basic 3yr/36K mi warranty.

When the light came on the 1st time I took it to a local dealership who said when they hooked it up to the computer that it was misfiring in cylinder #1. I drive out of the dealership and 20 miles later the dumb thing comes back on. I take it to supposedly the best Jeep dealership in the area (Triad NC) and they too said that it was coming up on the computer as a misfire in cylinder #1. They swapped plugs & the misfire moved so they said it was a bad plug. They replaced the plug. I go to Myrtle Beach on vacation and guess what.. you got it. I took it in immediately and this time they say that the fuel injector in cylinder #1 needed to be replaced. (No wonder my gas mileage has been terrible.)

Also... since the light came on the Renny seems to be running awfully rough.

I believe after 3x with the same problem they have to keep trying to fix it until it's solved at no charge to you, also don't you have somekind of 7/70,000 on it if so it should still be coverd I'd think

one question is was it runnig ruff at all.this sounds like a start to a issue i had. i had the same codes and it ended up being a broken valve spring. not a bad job to do if you have the right tools. i would have the compretion checked in all the cylinders, if there is a valve issue it will show a lower compretion or no compretion. unfortunitly your trubles might be a sign of a weak or bad valve spring.

mine was running really ruff with a miss fire code, so i replaced the plugs and it seamed to fix the issue. well about a week later it came back but with a injecter code and miss fire code.i pulled the plugs and they were wet so i took it to the dealer and they said it was a injecter issue. so i had them pull all the injecters and test them...well they were working fine put it all back together and i wasn't any better off then i was, before they worked on the injecters.well at this point they did a compretion test and found that i was getting good compretion in all the cylinders but one. the weired thing was that the one i was haveing the issues with was building compretion 2 out of 5 times, the othere 3 tries would show a 0 on the tester. well total bill was $400 becasue i spent all that time with the injecters. the valve spring job only was $240 with laber and parts. the spring it self is $2.00 but the gaskets for the valve cover are like $65. so before you have the injecters checked have them pull the plugs and check the compretion. its quick to do this test but you might want them to check it a few times to make sure. like i said before 2 out of 5 time it was good compretion.

hope this helps but i can't say this is what is wrong with you kj. but this is what i found out...

Keep going back to the dealership if it keeps happening, even if it is past the warranty. Because you first brought it in for this problem before the warranty ran out, they still have to fix the problem even if it's after the limit (within reason, of course, it has to be the same problem you brought it in for that they failed to fix)

I appreciate the feedback. I will have them take a look at the valve springs if it happens again.
