I am adding a hitch package and it looks like I'll need an extention to get past the spare. What's the length of extention that some of you are using? thanks. |

I'm not sure if you can use an extension if your are intending to tow a full size trailer. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but, everywhere I looked only allowed up to like 500 lbs. I'm gonna take my spare off and keep it on the trailer whenever I go anywhere. |

I tow boats with my '02 and don't use an extension but use the longest ball mount I could find, I believe it is a 9", maybe a bit more. It clears the tire just a bit and I can tow my boats fine with it. Extensions, extra links between the receiver and ball mount reduce capacities and tongue weights significantly. Try and find a long ball mount if possible. Mine is a Reese. |

extension cuts the towing and tounge weight by like 2/3 so not a good idea to tow heavy loads, ive towed pop up and car trailers with no extension |

try an extended draw bar, as opposed to an extension then the draw bar |

It cuts it by 1/3 for a 12" extender (I think 1/2 for the 18", but don't quote me on that). I have used on with my pop-up trailer, but I didn't like the ride. I also have just removed the tire - the best result yet. A standard bar with a 3.5" drop will allow a toung in, but makes the trialer sit un-level (bad). I like the idea of the 9" Reese bar. I'll have to try it. Soon. I have taken the extender and mounted a hitch-haul platform on the back of the Libby. My soft-sided car top carrier fits vertically on that with room for the cooler on the exhaust side. This is the best use for the extender (also can hold some blocks for extra weight in mud, I mean snow. Yeah, snow. I'd never take Libby into the mud... |
