I finally got around to taking the jeep to the dealership and getting my rims replaced under warranty b/c they are chipping. I have the chrome clad rims which suck anyway b/c I didnt know I was paying for plastic when we got the jeep. The aluminum bead that goes around the rim is the part that is chipping. I know that this is a common thing on jeeps and figured it wouldnt be a problem and they would replace them no question ask. Well, the guy said he had never seen this before and I needed to call chrysler and see if they thought they would be covered under warranty. I went out and got in my jeep and called them then and there. They put me on hold for awhile then came back and said due to the rims being highly corrosive and out in the weather they are not covered!! what a bunch of &*@%!!!! Im thinking of calling the dealer I bought it at and seeing what they say. It awful that we buy a 30k jeep and within 2years the rims are peeling and they say its normal!! If I had it my way I would stick my foot so far up their stupid they would need to cut... well nevermind.

That makes no sense at all. Of course they've been out in the weather, they're wheels! Hopefully, you get this all figured out. I could understand them refusing to replace them from damage from a rock or something, but you would think they would cover corrosion.

No.

I went through it with my Mechanica's when the clear coat thing happened around the center caps and I pretty much got nowhere. They are for sale in the for sale forum if you want a new look though!

It's tought with wheels, especially chrome. I've seen this on other cars from other manufacturers on other forums. All with pretty much the same non-result.

Future care....if you get new rims.....to avoid corrosion, when you wax and polish your paint work, do the same with the same product on your rims....they'll never corrode that badly again.

The blow out seam on the passenger side airbag cover split about 3 inches so I thought I'd take it in and see if it would be covered. Nope. Even though it covers and what I thought protected the airbag, Jeep says it's trim and it's not coverered.

There's always an out for them...

i have alot of customers that come in my shop with chrysler cars, mainlt the 300m's, intrepids and concords that have the same problem with the chrome(plastic) wheels. the bead gets so corroded that it develops a slow leak. we have to break the tire down, grind off the crap and apply bead sealer. i've has three customers junk their o.e. wheels and buy aftermarket. i haven't has one yet get anywhere with the dealer. good luck!!
