Has anyone installed aftermarket seats? I noticed that under the seat there are wires connecting to it, I am thinking that is for the airbags, don't know for sure. But I don't really like the seat, I actually don't like the ride height.

I was at the dealership the other day checking out the SRT-8 Grand Cherokee, those seats are real nice. Would like to swap out for a set of those!

You in fact cannot at this point, as the passenger seat has an air bag weight sensor that I imagine would not transplnat to a new seat easily.

Maybe the SRT-8 seats also have the air bag sensor?

I imagine that there is a way to trick the sensor into believing that there is always somebody in the seat. Risky business, though, I wouldn't want to mess around with the airbags. If they deploy, it's big $$.

If there is a way, though, it'd probably be ok. Children under the weight limit of that sensor should not be riding in the front anyway, and airbags used to just deploy regardless of weight before sensors like that were around.

How about just the drivers seat? I noticed there is some sort of connection under there as well.

Not sure if this is relivent to the 04 and newer but when I replaced my broken Front seat I found that I had several wires. Most of them were for my Power seats however there is also a connection to the Seat Belt Buckle as that is what tells the dash that you have your seatbelt bucked and it can stop chiming and turn off the light on the dash. Not sure if there are any more was a while ago like 3 months :) Mind goes fast these days.

So if you dont have power seats I bet the plug is for the Seat belt buckle.

later,
Dan

There is a procedure in the manual to disable it if it is the one I am thinking of. I have a 1/4 mile driveway and I hate to re-buckle after picking up my mail at night just to drive up my driveway. Look in your manual on about page 38.

Well one of these days I am going to do it, or atleast attempt. I still need to make the kj more jeep worthy before I go accessorizing. thanks for the feedback.
