Hey, I was out with my kids, (3 yr old boy and almost 2 year old girl) and decided to explore some back roads. Ended up getting L.O.S.T. Kind of. Well I knew which general direction I was going, and where I needed to be, but was VERY LOW on gas. I did make it to a station. But the point is, the manual says my 2002 Libby holds 18.5 gallons of gas. However, when I roll into the station on fumes (or so I think) and my DTE on the EVIC says 2 miles, why will my tank only hold 15 gallons of gas? Is there some reserve in there that is a big secret, or is the manual simply wrong? Try as I might, I have never been able to get more than 15 gallons in there. What's the deal!? |

You probably still have the 18 gallon tank. The EVIC is dummy proof, and you could probably run another 40 miles highway with the EVIC reading 0. This is normal... |

Yup, I've gotten WAY past panic state and kept on driving, and still haven't had to put over 19 gallons in my tank (I have the 20.5 I think?) It's probably best to just fill up when the light comes on anyway (EVIC says 15 miles left when the light comes on for me). |

In my '06 (20.5 gallon tank), I finally figured out that the EVIC reads "0 Miles To Empty" right about when I have 2 gallons left (approximately) and the low-fuel dinger goes off. So obviously it's designed to err on the side of "scare the driver so he'll fill up before running completely out of gas." |

The 2002 manual says after the "low fuel light" chimes you have 3.5 gallons left. So lets assume you get about 17mpg, that means the actual DTE is 59.5 miles. Personally, the farthest I went after the "low fuel light" went on was around 30-35 miles. |

Ya gotta love how they dummy-proof everything these days - however it is a good thing that it let's you know looong before you run those fuel injectors dry, because that is very, very, very bad to do. Your lovely Libby will never run well again after the injectors start blowing air. |

Ran my '03 Rennie about 30 miles past "0" then made the mistake of parking on a hill. Wouldn't start when I came out! |
