This is going to be kinda hard to explain. Awhile back, someone said when they brake torqued their libby, they can only get it to 2k rpms. While Ive never had this happen in D, it happened in R for a second time last night. The first time was about a year and a half ago. I let my tire fall off the driveway into a ditch and it wouldnt come out without going into 4low. I figured it was b/c I just started the jeep and the tranny was cold. Then, last night I let both of my front wheels fall off of my friends driveway(Id say it was a 3"-4" drop-off) and it wouldnt pull back up on unless I got a run-and-go. I completely put it to the floor and it didnt do anything. I didnt look at the rpms, but by the sound of the engine it couldnt of been over 2k rpms. What the heck is going on here? What would happen if I was in a 2wd car and this happened? Would I be stuck? This is kinda sad I think. I know it has something to do with the "stall" of the torque converter, but Im still sorta confused. Anyone ever have this happen to them? Edit: Found it. http://www.jeepkj.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3760 |

Now that you mentioned it ... yeah, happened to me once. Parked at a spot where the pavement was cracked and stuff, figured hey, I got a Jeep right? Anyhow the front tires were on the ground, with about 3 to 4 inches drop. I couldn't back it up out of that hole ... nope. Put it in R, rev'd it up. Nada. Zilch. Had to put it in 4LO to back up out of that hole. I was like, WTF ... '06, 18K miles ... weeeeiiird |

I am no Libby expert, but from my experience with Rangers, it is common for manufacturers to put an RPM limiter in the computer for a manual in N, or an Auto. Some of the programers for the Rangers eliminate the "Rev Limiter" |

i thought i remember a TSB about not being able to reverse uphill... has something to do with the design tranny fluid pickup and pan... not enough fluid pressure and resulting in loss of power to the ground. Mark **EDIT** found it.... Code: Make : JEEP Model : LIBERTY Year : 2005
Manufacturer : DAIMLERCHRYSLER CORPORATION Service Bulletin Num : 2101705 Date of Bulletin: FEB 14, 2006 NHTSA Item Number: 10019525 Component: POWER TRAIN Summary: FLASH: 42RLE - IMPROVED HILL CLIMB CAPABILITY IN REVERSE OR DTC'S P1713 / P1776. *TT |

This sounds freaky. I haven't had this happen yet. And, I am going to try to recreate this over the weekend. But, did anyone have the reflash from the bulletin? Where are these TSBs and such posted? I've used Jeep's recall lookup and it produces nothing on my VIN. Where? Chris |

Mine gets up to about 2300rpms then just sits there. I didnt do it but 2sec then let off and my locker kicked in, didnt spin a tire! |

![]() I'd say there's specific circumstance for this to occur, otherwise all recent 42RLE owners would run screaming to DC. Perhaps it only happens if the KJ is tilted forward, moving the tranny fluid forward towards the front and causing it to lack sufficient fluid pressure? |

That pic has nothing to do with the problem we are having. |

I realize I'm replying to a really old post here, but I'm having this problem and am wondering if anybody has had TSB 2101705 performed. If you have, did it solve the problem? Anybody know where I can get a copy of the TSB to read? Does it apply to MY2006? Today I thought I was stuck. I was in the woods on some logging roads on our property and needed to turn around. The road I turned into to turn around was a moderately-steep downhill. I pulled in to it and put it in reverse (while in 4Hi) to back up and turn around. I couldn't back up. The rpms got up to about 2200 then dropped out to 1500. It would flutter between these two values but would not spin the wheels. I wasn't losing any sort of traction; The torque converter was simply forbidding the wheels to spin. I threw it in 4Lo and all was well with the world. But I shouldn't have had to. This same thing happens on my parents-in-law's steepish concrete driveway. I can't back out of it without a running start from the landing below. EDIT: Found the TSB: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2007/21-005-07.htm It's for 06 KJs, too. "This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 42RLE transmission." |

If you needed 4LO to get out, it sounded like your libby just didn't have the balls to get itself out... (we all have this problem) |

I see this often about '03s and newer funny thing is my wifes '03 can spin 245/75 MTR's on dry warm concrete in Reverse straight back If I hook up to some one who is stuck I can get 1 rear to smoke if I dont use 4wd and can smoke 1 front and 1 rear if they are really stuck ,fork lifts get really stuck on loose gravel I can also do it in Drive if I try just going around a turn from a dead stop either we got the TSB or a 45RFE or I have the you know whats to really floor it or 2 of the 3 |

my friend has a pretty steep driveway that i park on everyday, and where you have to park, it doesnt flatten out, so i have to start from that angle and all the way up and never had a problem. Even ran over a small log when i parker so i had to back my front tire over it while going uphill and still had no problems. Though i did have my tranny flashed when i first bought my jeep because i complained of a rough kickdown when i stepped on the gas so maybe thats the flash that also fixed that problem. |
