| Post subject: | Mounting place? |
OK here is the deal, the 4th of july is comming up real soon. I am thinking of a way to mount an american flag to an all american Jeep. When I had my YJ and TJ I used to use the rear roll cage to mount my flag. What I am looking for was to mount a flag on my KJ. Any one have any ideas where to mount something like that? It is not going to be one of thoes cheezy walmart 5 dollor flags, its gonna be a flag with some size to it. Any ideas would be great gang. |

It's simple, easy, and tasteful. Plus it will swing in the wind on the highway like a flag. |

both kool ideas. I was sitting out side after I posted this topic and was looking at the back of the KJ with a (lot) of beer thinking how to do it. I came up with an idea that might work. Actually both of you kinda hit it. If I take the top lug off the tire carrier and make some king of angle iron and attach a pole to it, then use the lug as a mounting spot. I gonna play aroung with it over the next few days and see what I can fab up. You guys are the freaking best people around! |

Just remember, that flappin flag is gonna put some stress on the gate to wheel bracket mounting points and may result in a bent gate panel if ure flag is on the big side. |

I would make a mount that uses the roof rails...they could probably handle the stress...knida like a x-mas tree stand format |

I hang from mine all of the time for the heck of it and its strong as an OX. |

| Post subject: | Hitch mounted. |
I just sketched out a plan for a hitch mounted flag pole. This is just an idea that I had. I have not put it together yet, so procede at your own risk. It does require a welder though. It also is quickly removeable. Take a spare reciever plug and cut the back end off at about a 30 degree angle (or what ever angle will give enough tire clearance later on). Then weld a small section of box steel on the cut end. Make sure both ends are welded shut. Drill a hole in the top, the size of your pole and then insert the pole. |

Take an 8ft peace of 1-1/2" condute and a short cargo strap and if you have a hitch turn it upside down and fit the condute over the ball nut and take the cargo strap around the flag mast and the spare tire, I fitted a Confederate Battle Flag this way and drove 126 miles round trip for a parade on Confederate Memoral Day. P/S I used self tapping screws to fasten the flag to the mast . |
