First off, I will say that the search function on this site actually does work rather well. With that said here are a few links to threads that have ridden this horse into the ground and buried it: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=458&highlight=swaybar http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=5460&highlight=swaybar http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=4155&highlight=swaybar There is as yet no aftermarket product to disco the front sway bar. The general concensus is to remove the swaybar prior to wheeling, then install it again before you hit the road back home. Suffice it to say that the sway bar links the two sides of the suspension (either front or rear) and allows force to be transferred between them. This has the effect of keeping the body from rolling to the outside of the turn and keeps the tires on the inside of the turn on the ground. With the swaybar disco'ed and running at speed, if you had to make a sudden turn or swerve your front tires could potentially roll too far and cause a nightmare - the image I keep seeing in my head is a car that has been in an accident and the front wheels are flopped up and back like it just made a landing from 40-50ft. Imagine that happening at 65mph and you'll understand why people are reluctant to make suggestions on any mods to do this. Now back to our regularly scheduled program... BTW, which part of NM do you live in? |

Thanks for schooling me on the search function and pointing me in the right direction for the info I was looking for, I'm a F-117/F-16 crew chief and I live in Alamogordo so there would be alot of good wheeling around here except they closed the forest due to the fire danger |

Yeah, there is some great wheeling out there, especially over on the west side of the Organs. My family history is pretty well tied to southern NM; my father's family lived up in Elk (east of Mayhill), plus I have relatives in Alamogordo and went to college for a couple of years at NMSU over in Las Cruces. Enjoy your time there and thanks for your service to our country (wish we had a saluting smiley |

Ummmmm..........he's a mechanic. My brother was stationed at Holloman, twenty six years ago. He was an F-15 Crew Chief, now he's just a retired Chief. I'm a transplanted Albuquerque boy myself. Both of my swaybars are in the shed. If you don't try to drive it like a sports car you'll be fine. |

Quote: Chris,
We are waiting on a small tab to be produced that will help hold the swaybar out of the way. The QD's have always been done but the swaybar holder proved to be almost impossible to produce inexpensively. We didn't want to have to raise the price of a pair of KJ "Quicker Disconnects" above and beyond that of the rest of our QD line. What we came up with will hold the swaybar in a nuetral position that will not come in contact with the upper or lower a-arm during suspension travel. Kind Regards, Jim Nollette JKS Manufacturing 308-762-6949 tech@jksmfg.com This is the last response I have gotten from JKS regarding the quick discos. I found it's almost easier to just take the heavy piece of metal out and throw it to the side when wheeling though. It took me more time to pull it off than throw it back on cause I had to wiggle here dance on one foot here to get it to land in the correct location. But I could just be a mental midget though and have a tougher time than most Parakeet |

The swaybar subject has been talked about alot around here and If you don't mind pulling the bar at the trailhead and putting back on before the ride home...that's pretty much the easiest / safest way to disco. That being said... I've run with and without the swaybar and I haven't come across a spot that I couldn't do with the swaybar on. (the rest of you may have...im not going to be beating that point at all). Running disco'd on the road with an IFS vehicle and a SOLID axle vehicle is very different...be very careful in your KJ. Good luck |

As a matter of fact I went wheeling for the first time today in my new jeep in a dry gully behind Wal-Mart (no really). Now I have a lot of experience off road and this is my fourth jeep, what impressed me the most was how well the traction control works on this thing, my back right tire was about a foot off the ground at the angle I was climbing up and it just kept going and climbed right out of the ditch! Now past experiences tells me that I should not have been able to do this with out lockers and so on, so the fact that I was able to do this in a bone stock Liberty absolutely blows my mind and so now I'm re-thinking what I need as a bare minimum in order to go wheeling but I'm probably digressing way off my original post here except that I'm rethinking my concerns about the whole sway-bar thing as it seams jeep has really done there home work on this one so for now I'm just gonna leave well enough alone for now slap some armor on this puppy and call it good till tax return time |

Thats the one out by the intersection of 70 and 82, right? Checked it out on Google Earth and see a pretty good little romp area back there. BTW my aunt and uncle lived at 12th and Iowa in Alamogordo. Have fun with that KJ and try to get a little more dirt on it, OK? |
