I have been thinking about this for a little while. I had the time and energy to try it out today. I guess the Jeep is now mine since I've drilled it's first MAJOR hole(s) today.

They are two reverse lights for big rigs that I picked up at a truck stop for around $20. The 4 1/2" hole saw cost me nearly twice that.

It'll be cool to swing open the gate and have light over on the drivers side to sit up camp etc.
How much room did you have in there behind the lights?

I haven't cleaned it up, but it will be going through the boot that runs wires to the tailgate latch. I had a switch wired to lights on my roof rack, and the wires were tucked up in the headliner.

Plenty of room, but it was a little tight on the left. There was a brace that I didn't see when I started. the light on the right has about a 1/4 clearance behind the latch.

I like it, I think it looks good. I can't tell in the pics but are those the LED back up/work lights? If not Trucklite offers them in LED and are way worth the little bit of extra coin. I like your set up though, very good idea.
