what are the laws for lights in Illinois??? cause I have driving lights (duh) and two hella 500's on my bumper...but i got a rack from old car with 4 hella black magics and i was wondering if i could use those, do i need covers, etc? reason for me not knowing is that my old roof rack on my range rover was when i was in kansas on a farm for a few years and i dont know how to get the information here to see if i can have those roof lights on my jeep, and also...what are the rules when your driving on roads, how many lights can be on?

The only thing I know from past experience is that you cannot drive in traffic just using snowplow lights. If you should pull up behind a cop car, you will get pulled over.

I know I've seen a better version of this but I'm drawing a blank as to where...

Restriced Lights

Quote:
Lights

* Back-up lights: Vehicles may have one or more backup lights. However, they may not be lighted when the vehicle is moving forward.
* Spotlights: Only one spotlight is allowed. When approaching another vehicle, it must be directed neither to the left nor more than 100 feet ahead. Your vehicle may not have more than four 300 candlepower lights burning.
* Flashing or moving lights: Flashing or moving lights other than turn signals or hazard indicators are prohibited. This does not apply to police or emergency vehicles.
* Red lights: Red lights visible from the front are prohibited. This does not apply to police or emergency vehicles.
* Running board lights: These are limited to one on each side, which must be nonglare white or amber lights.
* Cowl or fender lamps: Only two lights are allowed, which must be nonglare, white or amber lights.

I'm not exactly sure of the rules either - but I've never been pulled over for not having covers on my renegade light bar.

'technically' you are supposed to have covers on the auxiliary lights. That being said I've also never had an issue running w/out covers :P
