Get this, the other day my friend let me borrow his 1984 Camaro. Everyone kept telling me how great Camaros are but this thing ran like junk. For some reason which he didn't explain I had to push down on two brake pedals at the same time to start the engine. I put it into drive but it wouldn't go very fast and just sounded horrible. When I got back he thought i'd be impressed. Why did anyone every buy one of these things?

Two brake pedals? Was the Camaro modified? Psst! The second brake pedal is called a "clutch."

Ask Chevy why they made 4-banger Camaros. So what if it was a fuel-injected model! The car was too heavy for a 4-banger of any type.

It is a 1984 model. The thing is 26 yrs old! Unless it was completely restored, it probably isn't that great including its performance.

If you look at all cars from 1984, the Camaro had a lot of firsts or high tech stuff back then. Look at computers from 1984 and you will say the same thing about those things because you see what computers and cars are like now.

as with ANY vehicle, it depends on which model it was, how well it was taken care of, and what's been done to it

unless you're entirely joking about the two brake pedal thing.. and making a jab on it being a straight drive, yeah they tend not to go very fast and sound like crap when you drive a straight and not change gears lol...

only other thing I could think of, was that it used to be a straight and was converted to an auto and still had a neutral safety switch on the old clutch pedal that wasn't hooked up to anything anymore

How can it be a clutch if he put it in drive??

If I'm not mistaken, automatic tranny's don't have clutch pedals.....

i've seen it a few times particularly through the 76-82 ford era vehicles that had a switch under the dash that the pedal engaged when depressed , apparently to some it was more work than necessary to convert it to using the auto's NSS /shrug.. never made a ton of sense to me but not everyone was on the up and up with the electronic systems back then but had no problem working their way through the mechanics of it

well for some reason the shifter didn't have a D label on it. My friend said to put it to 1 and then go, idk why a sports car would have all those towing gears when a KJ only needs two.

The sooner you learn American cars are rubbish the better off you will be.

The only good things America can make are four wheel drives and pornography.

What are you talking about? and 2 brake pedals???
The early 82-85 camaros were questionable on quality and definitely down on performance, not sure what GM was thinking on those cars. Alot of the camaros came with the waste of a 2.8 v6, horrible motor, and then there was those with the 4 banger, even worse. With that low power, they may have installed steeper gears to make up from the lack of HP and torque.

Welsh, ...yeah whatever!!! I'll take a camaro, or even a rustang over foreign made crap!!!

Man. NONE of you guys have a sense of humor.

Sean150: Good job, I cannot believe these guys ran with it as long as they did.

What your problem is that you were driving in the slow setting(1) now if ya what to go faster ya need a higher number, but if ya really wanna go fast pull up to a stop light put it in race(R) and floor it. :ROTFL:

Has anyone driven the new Camaro? I am driving an SS as my demo... my favorite part is the HUD which gives the illusion that the speedo and tach are out by the front bumper.

Can we say, "British Leyland?" :ROTFL: And, don't forget Lucas electronics! The closest thing to American porn in England at that time was the language that came out of a car owner's mouth! :goink:

All Camaros are slow and sound horrible. It doesn't matter if they are running correctly or not.
