They usually are
I think I accurately remember 10 or fewer days out of the 5 months (3 months training 2 months medical rehab)
in no particular order:
1. the first 3ish days plus the arrival at the actual training platoon - the first 5'ish days are TD negatives, the 120 what days don't start till the TD negatives are over (think the Corps is only ones that do this) i know atleast Maxwell starts at TD1 but thats USAF 'ossifer' stuff
4. the day we did rappelling - I came down on my SDI's toe and broke it
5. some field training day after the rifle range, we were at the old air field and it was in the middle of a tropical storm or something or other and a tornado came through within sight, a transport bus showed up to take us back to the barracks and it got stuck so we ended up having to pick it up and put it on solid ground and one of the rear diffs or the intermediate shaft between the diffs broke so we ended up humpin it back anyway which was fine since it helped wash off the mud
6. night fire exercises, we set the targets and burm on fire with tracers
7. gas chamber - i no longer had a cold when we got out, unfortunately the cold i had when i got in it was all over my boots
8. hittin the company xo in the face with the handguard that flew off my rifle during the last practice before final drill
9. somethin bad that happened with a DI that isn't going to be discussed here but it is somethin i remember
10. graduation - and the puking that followed after eating food that had seasoning
to have 3 months of memory be reorganized in your skull into 'strobe light' format makes you feel slightly cheated later, but then you think again and realize that you didn't wanna remember half of that trash anyway
oh and keep in mind atleast for the Corps, you can realistically say that the "boot" training is 120'ish + 27ish days since MCT comes a week or two after you graduate regardless of your MOS - so it's more like you get 160 days of boot with a 14 day vacation after the first 3 months
best way to look at it, "I'm gettin paid, and I don't even have the ability to spend it.. for another 129 days!" Wooo! I'm new boot rich!
I've had several friends that were naval AET's one ended up going into the electronic warfare systems, he got real smart with solaris which they apparently use, or used, on more than a few of the diagnostic systems for ews
i think you'll enjoy it, it's got good prospects, just invest in good knee pads (not a joke!) kneelin on wings and what not will jack your knee caps up really bad, really quick
