So, i have been getting ready for the season for quite some time now...(wife says months. It was meerly 8-10 weeks) :lol:

Now I have all of my clothes, washed in scent proof soap. Then neatly crammed into an airtight bag so the dogs smell wont get at them.
I have gone out and shot my bow 3-4 times. Times not rounds... and low and behold. It shoots the same it did last year... Dead on... :shock:

I have all of my gear inspected. Treestand. check. crawlers, check. pack, check. Deer calls, check. Bottle of other animal urine...

is this still good? Here, Christi, tell me if this smells good... SLAP! runs to bathroom.
More scent proof sprays for when I get to the woods. check. Scent proof body soap for that morning. check...

Well everything is good. Now when this saturday comes....

Wake up. take my time. put the coffee on. Jump in the shower, de scentify myself. put on the base layers. long underware, some pants, a shirt. Put coffee in thermos, and some in cup.
Head outside to Jeep, light cigarette. ( Think to self of all the money I just wasted with the special scent proof soaps :lol:

) Get in Jeep. Pick up dad, that just did the same thing. Still smoking Cig. ( He is thinking the same thing.) Laugh about thoughts.
On the road. Ask dad to pour coffee. He does... Down his leg... :shock:

darn.

Get to land. put on more clothes, grab treestand, bow, pack, and head out. poke self in eye. ( still too dark to see) Get mad, sit down, 300 yards to go with 55 Lbs of crap... Have another smoke... Watch deer walk right past me. Can't move. 25 yards away. Realize all the scent proofing. WASTE OF TIME> JUST LIGHT CIGARETTES!!!

Like Ron White says (though he's referring to hunting with a gun) - just slap a horn and some tiny little headlights on the darn thing (bullet) and the deer will jump right in front of it with a :shock:

I started figuring this all out when I started going with my dad. ( I was 8-10 yrs) We would sneak in really quiet... Put up our stands really quiet... see nothing...

Then when I started hunting. It would start to get cold. I wouldn't care about being all quiet. Hell Its not like I was in war with the commies! I wouldn't move around or anything, but I would cough, one time I had to GO. so I went in a plastic water bottle, and set it under my seat on the stand. It was there for some time, then I stood up to watch these deer behind me about 100yds or so. They started my way. (comming to the field) so I turned around. Cuz I cant watch them when they get closer, I start to freak. so I wait until they pass me to shoot. Just after the biggest one passed by, he spotted me. when I moved and knocked the Pee bottle off the stand. AWESOME JOB!!! The fricken deer walked over to the bottle.
I got my shot. with success. I quit being all sneaky... That can be the older generation thing. I got my deer.

Wind direction has always been more important than scent protection.

3 of the biggest bucks I ever got were all shot from the seat of my tractor, The best way to hunt is clean out the barn at daylight, start out through the field slinging cow poo and the Deer walk right out and start to eat at the edge of the woods, none of that fancy soap, clothes, tree stands, just a tractor and a load of cow poo!!!!! :lol:

Works all the time because they are used to seeing you out on the tractor and the smell....well you know

I do have to laugh what man has created. I hunt quail, pheasant, mule deer, elk, and bear……………I have never wore camo and I have never used the big guns that others use. Heck, I still use my 270 for Elk and Bear and my 20 gauge for pheasant.

I used to hunt squirrel with a guy that would use a 20 gauge. He used to get mad when I used the pellet gun. :lol:

I can't stand people that use more than what is necessary. Its like...um... (male reproductive organ) envy, or something.

My dad has a "Deer" rifle. It is a Remington 8mm. Mag.
I still can't get over that. The papers that came with it say it is for "All North American big game, and Most African Species... :shock:

WHy do you need this again? I went to Sportsman's Warehouse the other day, and found a box of rounds (25) were $75. I'm good. Ill stick to the bow. :wink:

Hunters that smoke are bigger fools... I am working on that. That is part of the reason that I can't drink right now. I have been banned from that.

Yes companies have convinced many that they need a gun for everything they hunt. One of my friends , hunts everything, squirrel, rabbits, deer, groundhogs, goes to Canada bera hunting etc and has a different gun for each, cause some one said this was the best gun to use!
My Grandfather hunted with two guns and also shot the steer and hogs that we butchered, with the same ones, all he had was a 410 and a 12 gauge, that was it :roll:

My Dad used to go out in the woods and sit there and smoke for hours, even fall asleep once in a while, wonder he didn't burn the whole woods up!
