Anyone own any stocks?? Which ones?? I'm thinking of buying some stocks.

I signed up with e-trade, trying to decide on what stocks to buy. Anyone have any advice?

Investors business daily - has computer generated reports of companies that have started doing better - typically they're not magic - but 10-20% gains are reasonable using their guidelines (occasionally much more)

also - if the entire market is headed down - the recommendation may be don't buy anything

Think long term and buy over time and hold on. Dollar cost averaging is your friend.

The one I am most proud of that I am still in ++ territory on is CISCO. I have been buying it on a monthly automatic investement plan since it was down in the $12 range a couple years ago.

Others I have are not so good right now but i expect that long term they will come back. I won't brag much about those until they do come back.

Best bet is to research out the companies that have been around a while and that appear to weather the storms. Research from IBD, and similar pubs can be confusing and time consuming but you do have to do the homework so get used to it.

You may also want to get into mutual funds too. This is a good way to DCA over time in a variety of stocks.

I was thinking about buying some Ford stock. It was 1.92 before the weekend, but I have to wait 2-3 business days to verify my account with E-trade. Now it closed at 2.39.

Anyone know how the commission works with E-trade?? Do I pay monthly or per buy/sell?

I heard as of last week GE stock was on the rise even while everything else took a poop.

For every dollar that you invested last year at this time, it's now only worth 60 cents. But it will go up eventually, and some people are going to make some serious cash from it. Be interesting to see what happens if the GM, Chrysler thing happens.
