worked as a surveyor for 4 years, and yes, people need to slow down and pay attention. and on dusty gravel roads i really wish these younger kids would have a little respect and slow down even more and not speed up.

I know the site of construction crew on the road delaying you from getting where your going might give you some mixed feelings and a few choice words, but please stay alert and slow down! A fellow co-worker of mine was hit by a pick-up going 45mph while he was stoping traffic. Luckily his guardian angel clocked in that day also, because after flying 15 feet and hitting the construction lights all he had was a broken leg, some teeth missing a few pints of blood lost. We had 2 car accidents happen on site, and personally I had 2 close calls with people not paying attention and hitting the cones next to me. It may be a nuisance to you, but remember that these guys working on the roads have families that they want to go home to. |

For sure, keep it to a safe speed. Glad your friend didn't get hurt worse....bad enough though. Hope he's OK. |

Construction zones are probably the only place I actually do obey the speed limits.. (I dont work construction, but I can empathize with the road workers, being a truck driver - people love us just as much, especially going up hills) |

Been working for a Surveyor / Engineer for 18 years now. Ever since I started working there I go out of my way to drive slowly through construction sites. We've had people swerve at the cones and try and 'shoot' them at us while working on the side of a road. Glad your friend is still alive and hope he heals up quickly. |

Sure feel for you all. Not sure what type of surveying youre doing/did but I was a rod man for 2 summers and its the crappiest thing Ive ever done. Worked mostly on strip jobs so road work may not be as bad. 
I usually try to go the limit through construction. Thats one place that I do not want to get a ticket.

The fine for speeding in a construction zone here in Illinois starts at $350.00 and they use remote camera's -- if you kill someone, 10 years in the slammer is mandatory. According to the signs on our highways. |

Thats one place that I do not want to get a ticket. i do mostly boundary work but also road staking, location work, sub division layouts, setting pins running property lines inside, marking ...about everything i guess. i started as a rod man for 3 months, then gun man for 1 1/2 years then crew chief for the rest of the time. road work is the easiest IMO but the most dangerous. anything involving boundary work/ property line or pin setting/marking can be some of the hardest physical work Ive ever done. surveying in the mountains sucks big time. |

Been to too many accidents where Flaggers and workers got hurt or killed for no good reason at all.
