Just confirms my own pet theory - Big Hummer, Small... Brain :lol:

I have had several instances when I was dead-sure I was going to get a ticket but because I was polite, had all my paperwork ready and admitted to the infraction (when I was sure what had happened) the officer let me off with a warning. So to all those officers: thank you.

I might get flamed for this but...I would go on a limb and say I bet 75% of those drivers that got a ticket were male.. because it's a fact that most women can flaunt their way out of a ticket or flirt their way out it's ridiculous I hope that's spelled right... my fiance flirted with a cop and got off without a warning or anything and I thought to myself from now on when I am speeding we are switching seats! :wink:

He must have seen my plates (GWOT veteran). Then he felt bad for me because I had my wife, dog, and cat. All in the Jeep.

He told me to slow down. And said that there was two more officers ahead. between him and the border.

It just recently came to pass in my town, that if a cop follows a vehicle for more than six city blocks without stopping them, then the person driving can get the cop for harassment

I hate the cops in my town they are pretty crooked because they'll slap you with an $300 fine for speeding but yet a methhead can get caught and get a $50 fine with a 1 yr suspension. Now tell me what sense that makes?

Take a look at the most ticketed vehicles. Guess who is #1? WRONG! My guess is due to the driver's atitude when pulled over more than the specific vehicle itself. Some people, won't get a ticket if they are nice and polite. If you are rude (act holier than thou as if you are somebody and feel as if "how dare they pull ME over") to the law enforcement office that pulled you over, you will get ticketed. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Insurance/InsureYourCar/which-drivers-get-the-most-tickets.aspx

Sure didn't expect to see the Matrix that high up on the list. Have to say, though, #1 didn't surprise me...and you're right, a little politeness goes a long way when speaking with a patrolman.

Sometimes when you get pulled over, you are going to get a ticket no matter what happens. Small towns with speed trap reps & state patrols that only do traffic are the worst for this. Being polite is absolutely the key. I am not saying you have to admit to anything you didn't do, or kiss buttocks, or anything like that. Just plain old business-level politeness. And if you are dead to rights guilty, as noted above, being polite & apologetic & not lying your butt off can work wonders. Lying when you are caught red-handed usually assures your ticket. Never tell the cop you are going to fight it or see them in court. You just assured that the officer will take better notes on the tickets. If you have a suspended O.L., no insurance, a record a mile long, etc... do not be surprised if you get a ticket no matter what. I mean, c'mon. Do not believe the old saw that you should take it to court, the cop may not show up. Most cops make good $$$ to go to court, and are severely punished if they missed it. For example, if I went to court off-duty, but on a work day, I got 3 hours of OT even if I was there for 5 minutes ( very common-long enough for the prosecutor to play Monty Hall & I was gone.) If I went on a day off, I got 7 hours of OT no matter how long I was there. 7 hours of O.T. was $330.75 at the end of my career. Still think I was going to miss court??? In either case, it went to O.T. on the clock after 2 hours. I was never there that long for traffic. On the other side, an unexcused absence from a court appearence was a 1 day suspension w/o pay. That would have been a loss of $252 for me. Still think I was going to miss court??? Often showing up at the court date on the ticket & trying to do a little of your own plea bargaining with the prosecutor is to your advantage. You may be able to get a fine but no points, or just court costs, etc... The issuing officer won't be there, just you & the prosecutor before the judge. In most areas you have to show up at this appearence & enter a plea of not guilty to get a trial date. This varies from place to place, but the bigger the court system, the more likely that they will deal with you to streamline the process. Some jokers want to sell you a book that tells you these things. Here they are for free. Take it or leave it. Your actual mileage may vary.

Most villages up here do not have a police dpt. We have 1,833 residents here in town and a police dpt and you better not be going over 35 through town (30 zone). It is a guaranteed ticket. Polite or otherwise. And if you park downtown over 2 hours, you will have a parking ticket. I am not a speeder in any town and I know where they sit and I avoid downtown unless I have to. The first 100 yards out of town the short way is 30....then a traffic light and a 55 zone and I'm gone. I don't seem to have a problem on the interstate at 70 (65 zone) as everyone seems to be passing me.....haha

BTW: If a woman pulled that crying crap on me, I generally wrote her. I figured she had all of the warnings she deserved by using that B.S. in the past.

Thanks for the info InCommando, i appreciate the heads up! Highway patrol around here tends to be a bit more "by the books". In other words you go over that 5mph buffer around the speed limit and that was it! City enforcement tends to be a little more lenient and im perfectly okay with that. I just wish there was an officer around when others would tailgate me or pull some of the BS that gets me in trouble all the time haha. I also try and give a wave and a nod to the officers that hide behind our property when they watch the main thoroughfare near our house.

+1 to being polite and having all your info up to date and easily accessible. I've been pulled over many a times, most notable was bout 2 months back. After what seemed like the longest mile of my rout ever, i simply stopped and waited for the cop pull up and put his lights on (at 3 am if you cant tell when someone is following you, let alone a highly reflective cop cruiser, you aren't paying enough attention), he walks up to the door looks in, sees my passenger seat and sez "O!, newspapers, you had me worried there." BTW most local cops have a bit of a soft spot for the honest graveyard workers, and service jobs in general, or lest the ones here do.

Stories like the one your friend in high school told you are known as urban legends. If on the face of them they do not sound reasonable & leave many unanswered questions, then they are probably not true. As Albert pointed out, our country's make-up does not have the cops making laws or setting fines. If this info is true it is your state legislature that has dictated the prescribed penalty or your court system that is selecting the penalty for meth possession, not the cops. There is this whole deal about the legislative branch making laws, the executive branch enforcing laws, and the judicial branch reviewing them.

How do you "get" them for harrassment? Civilly? Criminally? What? If the cop is driving down the road to go to a certain address on that road, and it is more than 6 blocks away, & you happen to be in front of them, does the cop have to turn off onto another road or pull over until at least one car gets between you? Or does having a car between you make a difference? They'd still be following you, right? Can't every motorist "get" every cop if said cop drives over 6 blocks in the same direction, but behind, the motorist? I'd love to see a link to that law,rule,statute, whatever it may be.... If for some reason you cannot find anything to link, if you could get me the name of the town & state I should be able to research it from there. Thanks.

Now tell me what sense that makes? The cop does not establish the amount of the fine, the court does according to the parameters of the law. You have a beef with the court system/laws there and not the cop.
