engine pallet anyone?

just sold my 383 that was in the "other stuff" section, but it needs to be shipped now, i planned on building a pallet from 2x4's but i cant really find a good design. do any of you guys know the best way to go about it?

also that money goes into my lift and tires. so I will be ready for the blessing and the silver lake run in the midwest chapter.

drive around all the big stores in your area including places like home depot and walmart alot of times theyll have pallets sitting around outside next to the dumpsters, if not most of the pallets we used to get saab parts on were made of 2x4 constructed squares braced through the square with 2x4 nailed together and planked with 1x6 held down by staples

i can get pallets from the marina i used to work at.. but i need something that will support and engine, and keep it sturdy while being shipped across the country.

saab sent us trannys and what not on pallets, to keep them sturdy they would anchor the tranny to the pallet using bolts to the block and chain with bolts through the 2x4s

same deal with passenger engines, except there'd be blocks of wood supporting the engines front and again, bolts to the block and chain to bolts in the 2x4

use 2x6 boarding if you're worried about the 1x6

it was usually a pallet for the top and bottom and plywood for the sides with this side up on the 4 sides and the packing manefesto on top

side note, saab reused those crates who knows how many times too, if i remember right, the CRATE had a 600 dollar core charge

Build up 2x4's under the front of the engine so that the engine sits level, but make sure that neither the flexplate/balancer /either end of the crank is supporting any weight. Get 3 cheap ratchet straps from the chinese tool place of your choice. Use pipe insulation or something where each strap touches the engine. Take two across the top side-to-side & one fore to aft. Make sure the straps run through the pallet & not around the sides or underneath to prevent them from being snagged or worn.

I didn't realize there was another big block mopar fan on here.... :lol:

oh, turns out the guy that bought it is in indiana, and on the way to my sisters softball game in cincinati, so my dads going to drop it off, so i dont need a shipping pallet, the one i have now is just fine.
