its just a marketing scheme to increase membership enrollment...

happens alot on gaming and PC hardware forums..

They even have it here and on JeepKJ.com
LOST has the Lifetime member section where you can only view it if you pay for the lifetime membership.
JeepKJ has the "Supporting Member's Only Club" where you have to buy a bronze, silver, gold, or platinum membership to view its content.

JeepForum is just much larger than the two and can get vendors to offer give aways.

I have no problem with them offering a give-a-way to supporting members only, I just think it shouldn't be advertised to non-contributing members via e-mail unless they tell you up front it's for supporting members only.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it false advertising, I just thought it a bit cheesey the way the e-mail leads you to believe it's open to everybody when it isn't.....

Not really a big deal, just felt like venting a little.....

I'm not in the habit of bad mouthing other forums, I understand the time and effort it takes to host a site, and I believe that if you don't like the way a particular forum is ran, or the people who frequent it, then move on.... However I was a little disturbed when I received an e-mail from another Jeep related forum...(obviously not this one).....advertising an expensive item give-a-way with a direct link to sign up, but when I went to the link to sign up it then clearly stated that I had to be a contributing member to qualify for said give-a-way. In other words they got a sponsor to donate a very expensive item of interest to all Jeep owners, then they advertise this item to everyone...(contributing members and non-contributing members alike)......telling them to "click here and enter to win", only to find out that you have to send them money. Why only contributing members unless they are simply using the give-a-way item as bait for you to send them money, and since this forum in question is well established, has thousands of members, and many corporate sponsors, I can't believe they really "need" the money. Maybe I'm off base here, but I just thought it a cheesey manuver on their part, and just wanted to vent......

You have to be a supporting member on JeepForum to enter such give-a-way's. They want to reward those who support the forum and help keep it running and to encourage those like me who just browse it for general info to support the site and in turn getting the chance to win stuff.

I rarely get PM's and when I do most of the time I never read them so I don't really care about the 5 limit..................... Oh and for the record I do agree with you as it is annoying when certain sites do that crap. But like with most forums when I don't like whats going on in them or don't agree with the way they are run I don't go to them anymore. Pretty simple.
