I'm not sure if this made the national news (probably not) but a Chevron pipeline ruptured on Friday spilling oil into the Jordan River. The spill was not the scale of the gulf and the source has been contained but the river does flow through communities, through people's backyards and is irrigated so it does have a direct and immediate impact on folks lives here. All the late snow and non-stop rain has been causing flooding and hampering efforts to contain the spill. The are trying desperately to stop the oil from reaching The Great Salt Lake but efforts to block it have been failing so far. Many Canadian Geese have been rescued, cleaned and relocated farther south; those who were here illegally were deported to CA.

I know that the problems of middle class white America aren't newsworthy but I wanted everyone to know that we got this.

Could the Aztecs have known, that in 2012 after a 4 year experiment, our country would cease to exist?

We were first told it was only 500 gallons that spilled; today it's reported that 33,000 gallons have spilled into the river. The rupture wasn't detected until some people at Liberty Park in SLC noted the oil slick in the duck pond. Chevron peeps have been acting like "Johnny on the Spot" so far and residents whose property has oil on it are being told not to attempt to clean it up. I live in the southern part of the valley so I am not directly impacted by this but it could've easily happened in my neighborhood. At this time they have not called for volunteers to help with the clean up.

I once helped to clean up a fuel oil spill in Alaska. Had to leave before the job was done though. I got a surpising check a few weeks later from the local native corporation for $30 an hour.
