Just when the Idiots are attempting to remove them selves from the gene pool, Aussie Government wants to step in.

Kilrah_il writes "In recent years the number of people killed on roads in New South Wales, Australia has dropped, but strangely enough, the number of pedestrians killed has risen. Some think it's because of the use of iPods and other music players making people not attentive to road dangers (the so-called 'iPod Zombie Trance'). Based on this (unproven) assumption, the Pedestrian Council has started a campaign in an effort to educate the people, but apparently it isn't enough. Now, some are pushing for the government to enact laws to help eradicate the problem. 'The government is quite happy to legislate that people can lose two demerit points for having music up too loud in their cars, but is apparently unconcerned that listening devices now appear to have become lethal pieces of entertainment,' [Harold Scruby of the Pedestrian Council of Australia] said. 'They should legislate appropriate penalties for people acting so carelessly towards their own welfare and that of others. ... Manufacturers should be made to [warn] consumers of the risks they run.'"

Thats why I have a bullbar on the front of mine, heck, sometimes they even see me coming and run back up onto the footpath, lucky I have a 4wd, I can chase them up over the gutter to run em down... That'll learn them I-Pod wearing yuppies..... :grim:

As ridiculous as that is......

I'm employed as a professional fire fighter, one of our younger recruits had a nasty habit of wearing his iPod while working out, he had his music blasting in his ears so loud that he did not hear an incoming alarm, the apparatus left without him on the call leaving the crew short handed.....

we now have a new policy handed down by our fire chief restricting the use of any ear buds, or bluetooth devices while on duty.....

Working in this job, I have had to scrape a few pedestrians off the roadway because they were wired up to their iPod, and not paying any attention to what they were doing or their surroundings...they blindly walked right out in front of traffic, one unlucky individual never woke up....

not saying I think they should be outlawed, but they can be a problem in the hands of idiots.....

Firefighters are a valuable asset!
Pedestrians that are too stupid to turn down their music so they can hear what is going on with traffic, are not an asset, except to hospital interns who need to practice surgery on live patients instead of cadavers, rookies get the cadavers. :ROTFL: :ROTFL:
Having the no I-pod policy for on duty firefighters makes sense to me.
It is like requiring a Pipe Fitter, Mill Wright, or Welder to wear clothing in addition to the PPE when arc welding, if the arc spatter doesn't get you, the UV will. :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Anyone like the Idea of the Fire Truck having to pull over and regenerate the DPF for 45 Minuets on the way to put out the fire? Or the Ambulance having to do the same on the way to the Hospital?

I sat, let the I-pods take them out before they become Elected Officials or EPA employees.
