World Record Attempt and Fundraiser!

So I thought I'd do my small part in promoting this event. My wife's cousin is an MX and Pro-AMA Ice Racer and he has been working to put together a way that he can help the children of Haiti. After many trips to Haiti doing relief efforts, he has come up with this brain child idea to try and set a WORLD RECORD for the most number of laps on a MX track in 24hours!

It should be a pretty cool event. It is at Gravity Park in Chilton, WI starting Noon Sept 11th and going til noon on Sept 12th. There will be raffles, bands, stunt riders, and many other types of entertainment to keep people involved for the full 24 hours!

I'll be going for a while, but not the whole event.

If you plan on going, great! If you plan on donating funds, great! If you plan on doing nothing, great (that's up to you).

Just wanted to raise a little awareness!

i feel bad for hati but were the heck was all of this fundraising and stuff when katrina hit new orleans?

Well, the event went as well as can be expected. I'm not sure how much money he's raised so far, but the event went well. With all the rain we got, the track was SUPER muddy for the first 6 hours, VERY muddy for the next 6 and tolerable for most of the rest (sort of). Not ideal conditions for riding a dirt bike for 24 hours! He was hoping for 500 laps, was on pace at one point for 600, and ended up at 401 laps! His hands hurt from holding on to the bike for so long and the bike had probably an extra 100lbs of MUD for the first couple of hours at a minimum, thus it was a challenge

Maybe it is because he is 42, but I suspect this would be grueling for anyone

As far as the support for this(Haiti) vs Katrina, I know that support for this (Haiti) has been great. However, based on my knowledge and involvement in Katrina support, I believe the financial support may have been more for Haiti, but I do know that A LOT of people have been helping to this day with mission trips, financial donations, etc. to the areas affected by Katrina. If you google Katrina fundraising, you will see that a lot was actually done (and is still being done) to raise money and invest in that local economy and to help the people affected by that event too. It just happens to be that Perry had been particularly moved by the children in Haiti that he had been helping on mission trips for a couple years, (prior to the earthquake), and thus wanted to do something that was close to his heart. Everyone has that thing they are closest to, his is Haiti.

It is certainly a given that we have many people in this country(and across the globe) that need support too, again, everyone has the thing they are closest to, in which they are passionate about.

If you have the means to donate time or money, nothing is stopping anyone at any time from giving those gifts to any cause.

Wish him the best of luck, but as long as there is the corruption in Haiti, much of what is raised will be siphoned off by the Political Machine.
