I recently was given a gift of a very nice propane turkey fryer (King Kooker 30qt) with a stainless steel pot. The one thing it doesn't have that I wish it did is some type of drain so that I can filter the oil. I'm looking for suggestions on how I might add one. Considerations would include not easily plugging and preferably no welding/brazing (as i don't know how to weld and am only mildly experienced with brazing copper pipe. Besides, not sure how well brazing works on other metals anyway). I wonder if maybe some kind of all metal hydraulic compression fitting might work? (I don't know much about those either.)

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

You should bring it to a local fab shop and have them weld on a threadalet at the bottom,so you can thread a piece of pipe with a valve into it.
That is the best way to do the job.Shouldn't cost more than 30-40 bucks(mabe cheaper) unless you know a welder.

Much appreciate the insight!

I'm asusming since it is stainless that they will need a special welder/skillset to do it? And will that also mean it needs to be a stainless threaded insert as well?

Thanks!

You don't have to use stainless, but with how thin the pot is you're gonna want to use stainless and have it tig welded stainless. The problem with using steel is that if there is a pinhole in the weld,it will rust out. Also you will get surface rust on the fitting and weld if you don't use all stainless.
You do know right between the pot without the valve and the pot with the valve, there is a 20 dollar oil pump that'll suck that oil right outta there.Personally I'd rather have the valve, but wanted to throw that out there.

Very much appreciated! I might consider the pump, but do like the idea of a valve as well. :)
