Just bought a motorcycle

Jeep wasn't enough of an expensive hobby for me, so I just took up motorcycling.

It's a 1984 Honda Nighthawk CB650. I got it for $1200 in good running order, nothing needed. It's my OTHER 6-speed :-)

I have ridden/raced dirtbikes my whole life, and owned many street and dirt bikes. I just sold my 03' suzuki SV !000 back in march, I miss it now.

I want the KTM super duke 990 when it hits the USA in feb 07

What's the other Bike behind the one pictured? My former across the street neighbor used to restore old Harley Davidsons before moving Oklahoma, but Hodas are still cool, lots of the 80s and early 90s bikes can be seen cruising around M-town.

Not sure. The photo was actually the one that the seller emailed me before I bought the bike, so it's his driveway not mine (I haven't gotten a photo of the bike myself, yet...I should, just so I can see what I look like in all this gear).

If I remember correctly, the bike parked behind the nighthawk was in pretty rough shape and barely resembled an operable bike. The bike in front of the nighthawk, though, was a nice new 1100 BMW that the guy had just bought (and why he was selling the old nighthawk).

Hey good news!! Be carefull and TAKE THE SAFETY COURSE NOW!!! IT teaches only the very basics, which really means you are then qualified to practice on your own. Plus it gives you a break on insurance and you automatically get your licence. So take your time. Wear all the gear, and use common sense.

That's just how I got my license, actually. A friend of mine wanted to take the course and I came along, figured it'd be fun and I'd get a license out of the deal. Turns out I really enjoyed it and picked it up pretty fast, so I decided to buy a bike.

And of course on the gear. I went all-out on the jacket so I could get something that would be protective but well-ventilated enough so that I never decide "oh, it's too hot for a jacket today". The one I got is kevlar shoulders, elbows, and back, leather and kevlar mesh.

Nice! The first jacket I got weighs about 25 lbs... it has vents but on super hot days, it is still hot! So I got a perforated leather jacket last year. OH MAN is it nice on a hot day! Like AC. And ya know they say if it is real hot and you don't wear a jacket, your sweat will evaporate too fast and you'll get dehydrated and not really get THAT cooled off. So drink lots of H2O no matter what! Also with the vented jacket, if you get your T shirt damp, it is REAL nice once the air gets moving!!

I also got a pair of draggin jeans. Kevlar lining in the stupid and knee/thigh area. A wee bit warm in the summer, but so worth it! Don't forget good gloves too

Of course there is the age old helmet depate, but with the road debris I see around here, that alone is enough for me. Ever take a nickle size rock in the forehead?

Nice!!! I hope to get a bike right after I graduate.. Along with every thing else I plan to purchase.....
We could get a LOST motorcycle chapter going and cruise around New England.. when we are not on the trials of course

oh yeah! I wish I'd known about motorcycling sooner. it's not as expensive a sport as most people think it is. I got my bike for about $1200, and with all the gear and everything it still rings in under $2000. Add insurance and just go! It makes a commute to work a whole lot more fun.

I'm actually doing pretty well starting up a motorcycle "gang". A lot of my friends in the area have licenses, and now we've got 4 of us with bikes and a 5th on the way. Next spring + summer should have some good road trips in store.
