Post subject:  Twin Arch ride 10/27 - Sat (tomorrow)
My friend and I are going to check this trail out tomorrow. Sorry for the late notice but I was never fully sure if this was where I would be heading. I have to install my tow hooks before we go so hopefully we’ll be able to get there a little before noon and if we’re having a good time we’ll be there until it starts getting dark.

I have a stock Liberty – it’s a blue limited and my friend has a VW Toureg, not sure of the color to be honest. His is also stock but it does have the air suspension giving him lots more ground clearance and he just put on a new set of General Grabbers so he’ll probably be better off than I will.

It’s been raining on and off for two days now and I hear it’ll be worse tomorrow. So grab your rain coat, some boots and let’s paint our Jeeps with mud! I feel like mine’s a little happier after a mud bath. For those of you who don’t like to get your jeeps dirty, you can relax knowing that the rain will wash it all away during the ride and on the trip home. :D

If anyone can make it please let me know, if you send me a PM I’ll send you my cell phone so we can meet up. I’ll check this post again late tonight but after that just meet me up there.

Jeepdawg – I forgot to add a thanks to you for setting up this trail for everyone to use. Hope you can make it tomorrow!

Why not make it up to the Tower of Power / TFT earlier that day and join us? You may be able to lure a few of us to join you afterwards!?

I thought that was last weekend? The topic post said it was the 6th so now I'm all confused. I’d like to go but I have to get the two hooks on before I leave and I have some other stuff to get done before that and I'm starting out from Brooklyn so I doubt I’ll have time to both. With stock tires and the amount of mud that should be up there I'm sure I'll be using my new hooks and strap so I want to make sure I leave myself enough time to get unstuck and enjoy the trails before it gets dark. If the toys for tots thing is tomorrow let them all know I’ll be up at this trail and hopefully they will come.
Hyedipin, you gonna make it? I know you’re not a big fan of getting your ride dirty but the rain will take care of cleaning you up. Also, we’re bringing a set of hedge clippers to cut back any branches that would otherwise give us pin stripes so now you won’t need to worry about that either.

YES we are getting alot of rain the last few days. Twin Arch should be really muddy, and if it rains tomorrow and you guys are on the trails, it will get pretty messy. I am sure you will see other 4x4's out there tomorrow.
I wish I could make it, but after the TFT run, I had made planes with family.

Be sure to take pictures and show em off to us.

Do you know how to get the Twin Arch?

Thanks for the info Jeep Dawg, sorry you're not going to make it. There's a very small chance we might be back up there again on Sunday when it's not raining.

I saw the video of your last trip up there so I’m using your jeep to help determine what I can and can not/should not do. Do you have a lift? Do you have a rear locker or just the limited slip rear? I’m sure your tires give you a big advantage over my stock tires and I have open axels.

I'll be sure to take lots of pics and I'll figure out how to post them later. Anyone care to take bets on how many times I get stuck? It’s going to be silly slippery!

No problem.
My KJ is 100% stock. No lift or any lockers. All I have are skids, tow hooks and GOOD tires.

I am gonna say since it has rained alot, and if your wheeling correctly, you should get stuck about 2 times an hour. Thats my record.

Oh man was that fun! Mud everywhere! We made it up there around 1 and it was still raining. The ground was so wet and muddy just getting to the oval track was an issue. We entered in the first section from the road and that first drop down the hill was quite a way to warm up. Luck for us it wasn’t chewed up so traction was OK. Then made over and around the next hill to the narrow trail that gets you just below the oval track and let’s you out between two trees who’s roots you climb over.

The trail makes a right and starts going up another small gradual hill. The Toureg couldn’t make it up that little hill b/c it was just muddy goop and any forward progress has just as much or more slipping down to the right. He wasn’t quite sure how to turn off his traction control and it was his first time off roading in the mud so I’ll chalk that up to his inexperience and trying to treat it like snow and not spin the tires. The trail was pitched slightly to the right so he would just slide off into the bushes there before he regained traction. He never got stuck, he just couldn’t get enough traction to go forward and eventually made it up using the lower trail and a bit more momentum.

I got up on the first try keeping it in 4H and revved to about 3-4K while living it in D. Here’s the amazing thing... all 4 wheels were spinning! I was expecting two wheels to do nothing since I don’t have lockers or limited slip diffs. I guess no wheel was getting any better traction than the next so they all just spun. I had all 4 wheels aired down to about 28 (not much) and have the stock 235/70 Wrangler SRA’s. There is a great video of me clawing my way to the top with all 4 wheels making a nice rooster tail but it’s VHS.

We had fun messing around the track for a while and then fond the mud pit on the other side of the track. It appears to be the same one from Jeep Dawg’s video he posted a little while back (there was also a full size truck and an old Pathfinder in it too) however it was a lot bigger. The majority or the right side of the pit in the video that was grass was all mud and was the deeper section. I made it through once but did not try it again after that.

It seems like there was a LOT we didn’t see but we also didn’t go down any trails that we thought might scratch up the paint and we didn’t want to get stuck in a situation we could not get out of. But to be honest, with the trails as slippery as they were even a 5% grade with an offset camber became a technical trail. But at the end of the day neither one of us got stuck to the point of having to be pulled out.

So thanks to Jeep Dawg for setting this place up for everyone else to use and thanks to this site and the people on it, I never would have found out about this trail with it. Oh! Jeep Dawg, I briefly met your cousin (forgot his name) who lives in the Bronx. He was up there with someone else on his quad having a lot of fun. I had a great and hope to do it again soon.

I glad to see you guys found it and had a good time. I know exactly what you are talking about the 2 trees and roots. that is a great spot.
Let's see some pictures man. Hope you took some.
I am sure it was VERY MUDDY out there saturday.

We should set another day trip out to twin arch soon and get others out there again.
