budget lift kit?

I know this is probably a stupid and common asked question but if i get a 2" budget lift(the front and rear coil spacers), wont i need to get shocks as well, considering that the shocks will be extended, and top out, unless there is still enough travel the there will not a problem. thanx for any advice.

you need shocks. rancho rsx. i beleive the part # is 147004. but im not sure of that. get them on line. cheaper. you might think about switching the struts out at the same time. this will save you money down the road later. also leave the factory spacer on the rear.

For the front in the RSX series the number is 17505; for the rear you will want to get the 17004s which are actually for the Dodge Durango (among others) but are just the right length for a lifted KJ.

also, get washers for the rear shocks. the upper mount bracket on the rancho shock is slightly smaller than the factory shocks. so it will knock from left to right. easy fix. one washer for each side and your good. trust me do it while you got the tire off the first time. i skipped it and had to go back and do double work.

Rustys shocks have problems and you have to add washers, I have the Ranchos and never added washers and no noise in 20,000 miles

well on my 03 i needed the washer for the ranchos. the noise was driving me kookoo. besides my wife was barking in my ear that i broke the jeep. no more complaints from her.

thanx that was a big help, is there anything else i need? i mean i don't plan on doin a whole lot of offroading, barely any at all. i just want to be higher with more ground clearance. im gonna run stock wheels and tires until the tires need to be replaced. do i need an alignment??

ok ive done a bunch of shopping around and some research and i think i decidied to just go with the 2.5" lift from Rustys. Whos got this lift and was it worth it??

MANY people have this lift....ask around...read around. Pretty popular since not alot of people wana drop 1K on suspension for the KJ.

OME is about the same price and oh so much better

coils 100 a set
Rancho front struts 160 or so
Rancho shocks 110

470 total :wink:

I'm with this guy. If I had it to do over, I would take this route -- and probably will some day. Ranchos have a solid history of performance and a price that us mere mortals can afford. OME? Well, their stuff is just plain more durable. From what I've heard and seen, OME's purpose-built springs (light, medium, and heavy duty) settle less, if at all, than Rusty's. That's the consensus based on experience. Kinda like limited-slip differentials, where those who've been there and done that prefer Eaton's Detroit Tru-Trac to cheaper models.

KJ2K4, AndySRT has a front frankenlift for sale in Il for $200, and then you would only have to get the rear springs, and shocks.

If I wasn't in the middle of buying a house I wouldn't have said anything and got them for myself :twisted:

but I can't afford a penny on the suspension at the moment :wink:

Andy has sold me parts before, so I would go as far as giving him the Donkeykong seal of approval :!:
