midwest structure (oh-io)

So, since we have a lot of members in Ohio now that are becoming active, why is the subject of an Ohio LOST chapter taboo? It seems to me that this is a natural progression as more and more people become active.

So with that, I'd like to ask if anyone else would be interested in an OH LOST experiment? If it works, great; if not, we roll back into MidWest.

The way I see it is that most of our active Midwest members are from Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana. We have a few that poke in from Michigan and Wisconsin too. The thought of an "OHIO chapter" is interesting and feasible because of the volume of Jeeps from our location.

My only concern is that Ohio appears to be relatively limited in wheeling resourses. Most of the time we need to drive to Kentucky (Livingston) or Indiana (Bandlands, Haspin). Wheeling events would undoubtedly include surrounding Midwest states, but meet and greets, light trail rides, etc, could be done "in house" though.

You don't think you're shaking a hornet's nest here do ya Moose??

Define "a lot of active members in Ohio"?

I count a total of 23 Ohio members on the list, one is deceased, one moved out west, and i've never even seen a post from some of the members.
So what does that leave, maybe about 8-10 active members tops. Does that even mandate a need for an Ohio chapter?

A lot of active members is 6 or 8 in most any organizations that I have been invovled in no matter what it is. For example I have been with ones like the Moose/Eagles/ Jaycees/ etc etc over the years and always the same. Was even the Exe. Director of a non - profit agency and getting people involved was the same there so I think we have a core of great people here.
As far as where to wheel, some organizations (i.e. Ohio Multi Use Trails )in the state are trying to find areas, I think if we closely work with them we can not only have places to wheel but could also be on the fore front in developing the trails. Sure we could or would still travel out side of "our area" to other places but the core support/ what we do, would be here
A lot of the members do not get on here on a regular basis due to the fact that they are not into 4 wheeling as much as some of the rest and feel left out so some just meet and greets maybe in order to bring some in closer and let them see what we do . Not everything is about 4 wheeling. The Fathers Day Jeep Show for example has everything from full blown customs to down and out never again legal for the street trail rigs, but its people getting together to talk....Jeeps
OK I have went on far eneough here. Moose knows where I stand on this as some others that have approached me to see what I thought about the same things Moose brought up. Is it feasible of course, is it doable , with some work why not! Do you want to be part of it. Well now is the time to say so.

Just another forum I would need to keep an eye on IMO. I do not think there is an "offical" LOST midwest anymore but I could be wrong. I think it remains only as a "forum group" that likes to wheel jeeps in the midwest. So I guess you are just asking to get your own forum on the National LOST BB?

Living in Indiana, I benefit from both the IL membership and the OH membership more then most so my perspective on this is biased to say the least. Add to that my laziness to have to check yet another forum, I hope you stay.

Well this is an interesting idea. Like others have said what events would we be attending? The Jeep show is a good idea and we could get some of the other chapters to bring out their rigs.

Well, I've been trolling and posting on specfic threads. No need to post just for the sake of posting when everyone else has said it already...

as for this topic, I guess I just got upset when I heard that discussions of this idea were being "discouraged" by someone(s?) with the power to delete posts. Look, I don't really care where we meet online to plan runs in the KY/IN/OH/WV region, lift parties, repair the front differential parties, etc. I just get tired of the drama. I already have to hear about 7th grade drama from my daughter, I don't need it here too. I also don't have a problem coexisting on the same forum with the Chicagoland guys, as we have been. It was simply to test the waters of a LOST group focused on OH. If most everyone is happy with the status quo, then steady as she goes. If not, well, now you know who to PM.

My 2 cents would be for someone to take over the entire Midwest (maybe there will be a little more respect for how hard it is to please everyone). I don't care either way if it is state by state or region specific. I'm sure if one of you wants to step up and approach "The Staff," you may be able to get admin controls.

Take the reins and make the group & forum a place for all to congregate and enjoy.

I don't think it's taboo. Present a case to the admins of the board, and I don't think it'd be too hard to get an OHIO specific section. Kentucky hasone now and I think there were only 2 or 3 folks when the subforum was created. I always believed the chapter was too large and thats one of the reasons why we had so many problems in the 2 years I was attempting to lead it.

I am not aware of any post discussing creating an Ohio chapter being deleted. If it did disappear, it was becuase some argument or another got out of hand and that was the simple way to deal with it.

There is not an official Midwest chapter any longer per sey. There is a forum where people get together and discuss stuff that pertains to the region, but at the moment there is no organized leadership doing any planning or record keeping of any kind. We have all moved on to a more local Northern IL 4x4 organization, remaing here only for the online portion of LOST as a whole.

I don't know about the OHIO LOST Idea.....
I think that we would be segregating ourselves from the rest of the midwest guys...
The forum for the midwest section has seemed to work for planning trail rides in ohio, IMO.
Plus on all of the runs that I have been involved in, there is always someone who is from a different state and perhaps it would actually cut down on attendance....

I think the only thing that I would like out of the OH-LOST Idea is another LOST sticker. :twisted:

I'm going to throw a crazy idea out there...

Why not break midwest into councils all being part of the Midwest Chapter?

Midwest Chapter
- Illinois Council
- Indiana Council
- Ohio Council
- Wisconsin Council
- Michigan Council
- Missouri Council
- Iowa Council
- Kansas Council
- Kentucky Council
- + any other midwest states

Each council would be responsible for local events / get togethers (this could also be used to boost membership and get more kjers into the forums).
Each council would have a 'chairman' to represent each group (chairman will also serve as treasurer for the council in charge of $ for council specific purposes only such as food on trips/council specific gear).

The Midwest Chapter then would be headed by a president (who would be a chairman of one of the councils) as well as a vp and a chapter treasurer (in charge of $ for the chapter for midwest gear/large (multiple state) get togethers).

There could be a 'roundtable' get together every month/2 months between all council chairmen and the pres/vp/treasurer of midwest chapter to touch base on various issues.

Other notes...

-Forums would stay the same with all councils using the LOST Midwest Board.
-Each council could have its own website with state specific information and membership information
