help please

hey everyone just had my franken lift installed and went in realitivly smoothly. No clearance issues to speak of everything looks to be where it is supposed to be. No issue with the a-arm and spring, and I believe the cv joint/axle are getting along with the new lift as well. I have encountered a thud noise on the passanger side. I have no idea what this could be any insight would be great.

I had a thunking noise after I did my OME lift and found out I didn't tighten the sway bar links all the way. Also on Lionseye Tom found the top nut to the strut wasn't tight. Might re-check all the bolts to make sure you have them tight.

Topnut on my wifes car did the same thing when she went into potholes. When is the noise occuring?

Speeding up / Slowing down?

Driving across potholes?

Driving over speedbumps?

Check the lower clevis bolts.

ThunderbirdJunkie's holes have wallowed out a bit over the years and have created a nice little noise when the bolt loosens up

Time to invest in a torque wrench! :wink:

As mentioned, the Frankies top shock nut are know to be not properly torqued when assembled. Check the swaybar links first to eliminate that possibility.

I would really make sure that every bolt and nut on the jeep that was removed during the lift was torqued to specs. It is most definitley not safe driving a vehicle (especially lifted) that has loose suspension components that haven't been torqued down properly. Regular checks and threadlock can always help. Worst case scenario you may have overlooked something and it needs retightened. No biggie...hope you find the solution to your problem and enjoy the lift.

I knew about the loose nut issue and doubly checked both sides. Noise seems to occure at low speed. I am leaning toward the sway links. Although I had a friend drive the passager wheel up onto a curb and then back down while I stood outside, and I could hear nothing. But inside the cab my buddy heard it loud and clear. I am taking it back to the shop that did the install, I know the owner, he said he would take it out over the weekend for a drive to see if he can pinpoint the noise. He also said he would go back through and check nuts for proper torque settings.

BTW-proper torque on the upper shock bolts on a KJ=whatever ThunderbirdJunkie's 3/8 impact does on the 2nd notch :lol:

Ok so the guy that did the lift install drove my jeep, heard the sound but could not pinpoint where it was originating. Does the CV joint binding make any noise? I ask this because now another problem has occured and I think the two may be linked. As I got off the highway, its a clover leaf, I slowed down from 60 to about 45 and the traction control light above the steering colum lit up and it felt like the front right brake was braking. If anyone is close to Fort Wayne indiana that has some experience with lifted libertys that could listen and help me out that would be great. I will take some photos later this week when I get a chance.

cv binding does make a noice

it's usually one of those cheek clinching tear a hole in your drivers seat, crap did i just break something expensive sort of noises if it binds hard

the wheels have been off and alot of things have been removed and replaced, would be a great idea to jack it up, shake the wheels a bit check for looseness, take the wheels off make sure the disc heat shields arent bound up against the rotors, look for tell-tell signs of inappropriate rubbing of components

make sure all your calipers are tight and don't have a mis-seated brake pad

all that good self-diagnostics that don't cost anything but some time

start with the outside and go in, you may find something as simple as a improperly installed brake pad or loose caliper

that would be great. I can do saturdays or sundays. let me know what would work best for you. Saturday would be the only day this weekend that would work for me. This being my first jeep and my first lift, owned sports cars before my jeep, i need to go through jeep school

well still haven't gotten anywhere with these lift problems. I'm getting so fed up with it that I might just have them put the stock suspention back on and send the lift back. This project has been nothing but a pain, not to mention that I cant seem to find anyone around here to take a look for me. I pretty much a noob here, the posts were helpful but untill I know what to look for I really am just shooting in the dark!

I'm not too far from plymouth...my aunt lived in ft. Wayne for a while, its not too far from me. Idk if you'd be interested in coming west my way. I installed my frankenlift myself...I'm no expert or Tommudd (lol) but a couple minds to troubleshoot your problem could help. Just let me know, we could set something up if you'd be interested.
