Post subject:  L.O.S.T. Midwest Trail Run Etiquitte
L.O.S.T. Midwest has been experiencing tremendous growth. As such, we have had numerous trail runs with members and friends of all ability levels and equipment setups. As the Midwest chapter continues to expand many new members will have limited off-roading experience.

Whenever we attend a trail run there are some essential concepts to keep in mind. First, we will leave nobody behind. We will do all things in our power to bring everyone’s person and vehicle back to the staging area. Second, during the trail run, everyone is responsible for the vehicle behind them. This means, you will not advance on the trail such that you can no longer see your immediate follower. If you can no longer see your follower, please stop and wait. Third, we will proceed as a group. All levels of experience and vehicle will be allowed on the trail runs. If obstacles are present, spotters will be available. We will attempt to find alternative routes during instances when either driver or vehicle may not be ready or equipped appropriately.

Our goal is for everyone to have a great time and enjoy the camaraderie and outdoors.

Right on.

My recent first L.O.S.T. Midwest experience was a postive one because for the most part we all followed these guidelines. Other than my tires, I'm a "stocker" and at no point did I feel unwelcome or like a burden to the other modded drivers. I learned some valuable driving techniques that day, and I look foward to doing it again.

Excellently said! Awesome advice and great folks a club needs! It`s great when you can accomodate any level of wheeler. We did the same in MA and good to know that MidWest is just as great a club with great members that are willing to help out and also give advice.

Well said Rob. I agree with not leaving anyone behind and always keep the guy/girl behind you in your rearview mirror. That is a very good idea and keeps everyone following/leading together. However I feel that if we are to do more runs of that size (10+) we might need to consider spliting into two groups and keep them evenly split by putting a couple of stock/new drivers and a couple of modded jeeps in each group. This should allow everyone to gain more knowledge of their vehicle and alow more trails to be explored.

I feel the same way Video Guy does about not feeling unwelcome casue I'm mostly stock. I did feel like I was holding everyone up while my Jeep did overheat. But everyone was very understanding and explained that stuff like that happens a lot. Then evryone chipped in to help me out.

If you thought you were holding up the trail run, yes, you are correct.... but..... that stuff happens all the time and if somebody gets upset just because of it, then that individual has probably not wheeled before - specially with us - we will not leave anybody behind.... no matter what...

Yup, trail stuff happens and sometimes you get delayed in runs with something happening. Eventually it`ll happen to everyone unless you are lucky. In any case, you always have the rest of the group willing to help out wherever possible and we stick together.

I think when I get back out of the house for some trail runs with you guys I'm going to bring my hand-pump 3 gallon weed sprayer full of water. Maybe we can get some mud/dirt/dust washed out of the radiator of they guys that overheat as a quick trail fix...

I know on my CRD, the lower half of the radiator gets blinded pretty quick with small particle debris but I have an extra fan to compensate.

Don't worry about brake downs or getting stuck. In my opinion, it is more fun to be talking with everyone fixing something than sitting in my Jeep alone waiting for the next obstacle... :D

The way I look at it, if you are slow crossing an obstacle, you get more pictures taken...

Perhaps feigning lack of experience is a good plan....


But seriously, stockers have nothing to be ashamed of. Unless you still have crapyears on, then you can be ashamed. But if you have plans to replace them it can be forgiven. :twisted:

That's what I was thinking, maybe buying one of those super soaker squirt guns :wink:
