Drought

Is it every going to rain? My backyard is almost totally brown now. I'm too cheap to water the back lawn, and I'd rather conserve water for drinking. We haven't had a nice, soaking rain in what seems like a month. We've had maybe three 5-minute downpours in the last three weeks, but I have cracks in the soil a half-inch wide. I tell ya, people, climate change is doing weird things. I hope our children and grandchildren make it through it all!

We MIGHT get a shower or thunderstorm this afternoon. Fingers crossed. Anyone know a good rain dance?

Sorry to hear that Video Guy, here in NW Ohio we had at least 3 hours worth of rain last week. I'm not sure how deep the ground water is where you live but perhaps you could look into having a well line put in, then when things get dry you could hook up a pump and run the sprinklers for a while. That would help save you from some really expensive water bills, especially when everyone else is trying to run their water.

It's sprinkling outside now, but this afternoon it's supposed to clear up for another five dry days.

Seriously though, we could use a bit more rain, it would make the farmers happy.

Dont think that the climate is changing. Weve had droughts since I was a kid.. Nothing is changing. Its all over rated.

In other news, we were drying out but its rained a decent amount now.. So were not in a drought any more.. Makes for good detailing weather.

Other than a 10-minute shower Friday afternoon, not a drop fell all weekend. Great pool and BBQ weather though! I had a great weekend. Except the homework from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. last night. I was so tired at work this morning that I got off the elevator on the wrong floor.

I've pretty much given up on my back yard lawn.

Funny how you care about this stuff so much after you buy a house. I don't really care about the Joneses, I just like having a soft lawn for my kids to play barefoot in. Right now the ground is like granite.

i worked at davey tree for the last month, but ended up going back to my carpentry job. but the one developement we did, didnt have a irrigation system, and the yards were toasted, looked SO much worse after we mowed them too, we would even go 2 weeks on the front yards to let them grow and it still didnt help much, still dry as heck. one guy out of 109 houses had a sprinkler setup and his yard was beautiful.

I prefer to keep my water bill under $100/month during the summer. Otherwise that means less going out to lunch.
