Post subject:  Lost Rockies website

I talked to my friend today who can help us design a website. He said we can have a site hosted that would allow us about 500 pictures at 800x600 resolution for about $6.00 a month plus an annual fee of $20.00 or so. So less than $100 a year. I am posting a couple of links to sites he has designed one is a gaming site, one is his site and one is his brothers site. I am also posting the link to the hosting site he recommends. We can increase the amount of space we can have, for example we could have about 2,000 pictures for about $2.50 more a month.

That seems like a decent option. I was wrong about www.lostrockies.com. It is still there...however, it has obviously not been maintained. Half the links are broken, there are no pictures, basically we need to have it taken down. It is doing more harm than good for our club at this point.

I didn't think it was too bad either. We will see what everyone thinks. Who has the domain rights to that site?

I like the events calendar.

Yes, Our old site is waaaaaaay outdated, but that does come down to people providing the webmaster new info so it can be updated. If nobody sends the webmaster info, it is left the way it is so that is an important issue for a future new website. Who will be the sole person to provide up-to-date info and who is going to approve what goes on?

IMO, this is a Secretary's position to provide the info and the President or Vice President to approve what goes on it and what is taken off it. We can't just have any member sending pictures, articles, or personal feelings to be posted, to the webmaster.

There has to be weekly and sometimes daily info sent for updating.

Who was it that did the old website anyway?

As for the website, I agree if we do a knew one, we need to have a specific designated "webmaster" as a position, unless we add that to the Secretary's duties.

I was in charge of the old website.

Sorry I have let it fall into dis-array. I have had time shortages and have not been visiting the forums much or even thinking about the website.

I have hosting and have the domain renewed till this time 2008.

OK, since you have the domain registered until next year, here are some questions...

Do you have the time to manage the site still?
Do we have room on the current site to have links for each individual State club?
What is the cost of hosting?
Is there a way for Colorado or Utah to have their own webmasters to help with keeping the site up to date?

Sorry if this is a lot, but we are trying to get things really rolling for Colorado.

I could still manage the site. I think I could set up other webmasters but I am not sure (we changed servers and I am still unfamiliar with the new server software).

I would like to figure out how to set up a gallery and a system so that the club can easily post a calender and current events.

Cool, just keep us posted so we can get her running again. Also, since this is your private site, please let us know if/what you need to charge for the space, or if you are just going to donate the space for use.

Also, any news on NM guys getting anything going down there?
