I completely disagree abut the terrain being too challenging for stock "off-road" vehicles.

We have had bone stock factory sponsored rides from Hummer and Range Rover here. H2's and H3's have wheeled here in stock form on many occasions as well as many stock YJ's, TJ's, Rubicons - despite their "shovel", XJ's, CJ's etc... (sorry if I forgot you).

We have many different trail options but not Green style trails. Our trails were designed and meant for persons wheeling here to have fun and be challenged. George Washington National Forest is close by and has trails for the casual 4 wheeling explorer to navigate.

We appologize if our higher level groups have given us the wrong name or the wrong impression of being "hard-core". We may wheel "hard-core" but we do have trails that will accomodate most any "off-road" vehicle if the driver pays attention and listens to the choosen spotter (of his/her) choice. No full size rigs though  .

We do have a flop/roll list and ALL (and I mean ALLLLLL) of the rolls/flops are on High Black and Red Trails, NOT blues. Some blues do have black bypasses if you choose to do them.

Take Care,

Chris Packard

Between my and Chris's (thanks for the beers BTW) descriptions there is definitely a middle ground. I am just trying to give you guys "our" perspective from the KJ stanpoint. Main point is you will not be disappointed by going out there; lots to do and watch. There are not so much trails as big obstacle courses although they have done a good job of linking them togther as specific routes. My spotter, Jane, was awsome and very patient...

Big issue for me is I don't have a lift and those 2" would have made all the difference in the world. The factory engine skid just hit everything. I am trying to get used to the switch from my XJ to the KJ and ground clearance is just not the same. Have rocklizard's skids on the way and a daystar lift shortly and will definitely be back out there again. Would like to hook up with you guys my next time through so keep your trips posted.

From what I saw Chris loves to see people push their rigs to the max, damage be damned which creates a pretty cool and unique atmosphere. If he disagrees this boy is flat out lying!! He runs around that place like a little kid checking out what's going on. Go and you'll see; like I said you will not be dissappointed. And camp!... that's half the fun.

Matt

OK-now that that is all cleared up, I'm still interested depending on the date. We are still talking blues, right? I can't imagine their ratings could be THAT much different where their blues are a RC or Paragon black?

A lot of trails also vary within themselves by the lines you take. I may get flamed for this but, driving a stock KJ on high blues is almost not even fun because of how much constant attention you have to pay to your lines. It is an excellent way to learn though, or least was for me!

Dave,

I'm talking to Chris trying to set up a date for a KJ day. From what I've gathered on here between Mid-Atlantic and Carolina L.O.S.T. there are six semi commiting to go. An August date was kicked around, so that is what I'm shooting for with Chris.

It would be nice if a bunch of people would go!

Depending on the date I may be able to make it, but I'll probably be in the YJ. By now I get the message that the trails are pretty tough, but with a little common sense and some spotting I'm sure we'll do alright. I like the idea of a L.O.S.T. ride since the "Fools Ride" didn't happen. Not to jinx it but maybe we can get it on the nationl board.

OK the toughest trail I've done was Squealer at Big Dogs in Cove VA.In fact the toughest weekend ever for me was Big Dogs.Went home with NO body damage,NO carnage.I don't have that spotter anymore(darn I miss her) so it's gonna be different at Crozet.I'll be upgrading skids, lift and probably axles between now and then.Let's see if I can manage to keep it in one piece again.Hey Chris! You got any trail info I can access online?

This is a little off topic but Big Dogs does not run at Cove VA. They have there events at The Cove located in Gore, VA. Just in case anyone was looking for this place, I grew up about 20 minutes east of there.

Dave,

Crozet is supposed to be one of the premier rock crawling/off roading sites on the east coast. It's always an event, and there is camping available on site. I'm bringing my wife and three kids.

I want to go. But having suffered some trail damage to the LJ yesterday, I'm not sure if I can convince my wife I should go wheeling again so soon. I'll have to get back to you guys.
