Anybody been here?

Crozet VA. a 4x4 privately owned trail system operated by Chris and Heather Packard.

Minimum of 5 vehicles
$25/per vehicle per day, $40/per vehicle per 2 day weekend (includes fri night camping)60/3 day weekend.
(That is per trail rig - no passenger fee)

Primitive camping is included in the 2 day and 3 day rates (There are
porta-johns for use)

trail levels from Blue (stock to some mods), Black (locker required), and Red (highly modified)
In order to run reds you must have a full frame tied in cage and a harness.

groups will be guided by either cris or heather (or both)

5 or more Trail Rigs needed to organize a run.

No drinking during trail rides.

For those of you who don't know XR, take it from one who has wheeled with him, he knows what he's talking about. Having said that a new place to wheel is always interesting. I only wish it was closer to Chestertown MD. If they're wheelin XJ's it can't be too bad. (Did I say that! :twisted:

I haven't wheeled Crozet, nevermind in a KJ. Let's just say that I'm not easily intimidated. Those pictures you posted sure don't do it.

Here is a pic from a trail I drove in New Mexico a couple of weeks ago. Buddies CJ7, 14 bolts, SOA, 36s, and of course not a KJ. Sorry for the picture quality but it was taken off a cell phone.

Oh yeah, did I tell you that I plan on doing it with my three kids strapped in car seats? LOL, my wife doesn't care either. Her dad was a rock crawler. Heck, I'll have to dig 'em up but I've got pictures of her Mom driving a Scout across the Golden Crack in Moab.

So, in conclusion..............it looks fun and I'm not scared

That's the spirit. Sheesh, I shouldn't have to goad or guilt people into wanting to go. I think with you, right now we'd have the minumum five to go.

I'm in the same boat as you with the Frankenlift. I've got a few more mods to go before I'm ready, locker being one of them.

Body damage? I've got full coverage insurance and I'm not afraid of making a claim! Do you think I should bring the adjuster with me?

I need some time to prep the Jeep.It doesn't even have the skids on it right now.Gotta install the lift ect,ect,ect..................Oh and they aren't blues.That CJ is awesome isn't it?

You guys are really tempting me to want to try this place. But my calendar is pretty full for the next two months. If we make it in August, I might be able to do it and it would give me time to get a locker. I was considering a new bumper as my next mod but I couldn't hold on to my tax refund as well as I'd hoped. I already blew a good chunk of it on other stuff.

So maybe I'll just get a locker with what's left and try again next year on the bumper.

Ok, been there done that. To do ANY of the blues your KJ will need minimum of: 31s, rear locker, sliders, complete armor front to back and 2" of lift. That said a KJ with that setup would sound like a dumpster being dragged along the trails. Crozet is made for people that are just crud nuts. On the XJ forum mentioned the owner keeps a list of people that have 'flopped' which is about 20 rigs long with quite a few of them multiple times. The weekend I was there almost every rig was trailered and the attrition rate was about 50%. And the owner doesn't wheel an XJ, he has a single seater buggy with 38s.

I got my KJ through just a few sections and then parked it and walked around with my group the rest of the day. The least capable rig was a Rubicon on 33s and lots of added armor and was completely maxed out capability wise. A great place to watch but just not KJ friendly. And before I start getting flammed let me add a comment from another guy in the group. He was out here from CO in a Disco II with the top sawsalled off and fully caged on 33s with every armor possible and had a feature article in Petersons. He listed about every trail I have ever heard of between CO and Moab and he said Crozet is the hardest wheeling he has ever seen. He was on the Blue trails... Of course YMMV.
