Just got a $2k bonus from work and I'm going to try to talk Amber into letting me gear swap to 4.10s, get a Detroit locker for the front and ARB for the back.

Anyone have any issues with the Detroit? I'm pretty set on the ARB though.

Unixxx...

When you did your 4.10 swap, did you end up needing to buy anything other than the actual gears?

Where did you get the back set from?

I would do it the ohter way round, detroit in the back and the arb in the front, with out locking hubs, the detroit will really drive you crazy and make it a like dangerous when you go to the steer the bad boy.

You may want to consider the true trac for the front and arb for the back, or two arb's. I am fairly sure that the dana 30 arb will fit the KJ, the old ones did, but now since the cases in the front have been self destructing, they don't recommend them in the front.

happy turkey day

Al-you still have the extra dana 30a housing? I'm going to suck it up and put an ARB up front too and might need an extra! Unless you see anyway to get a dana 44 ifs mounted??

Also Al-I was looking into SYE and new driveshaft. I should do that after I put my RE LCA's in right for the final measurements, right?

Yep I have two extras, one of which I am going to use to see if I can make a standard dana 30 bolt in the KJ, the other I am holding on to just case one of you need it!

If you have the 231 t-case, wait until you get the adjustable arms, and come out one weekend and we will adjust the arms and take the measurements, and than you could order it off of me....

Gris,

First congrats on the bonus. I had a thought. Your jeep is a stick right? If so you should have 3.55 gears now not 3.73. 4.10 will be too steep for you. A 3.73 ratio may be a better choice.

There should be a tag on the differential. It will be under one of the cover bolts. There may be exceptions, but the gears in liberties are like this.
02-06 4 cyl. gas = 4.10
02-06 6 cyl. gas w/auto = 3.73
02-06 6 cyl. gas w/manual = 3.55
05 CRD's = your choice of 3.73 or 4.10
06 CRD's = 3.73 ratio

That;s crazy. That means I need the 3:73s to get back to normal. Much easier to find them than the 4:10s.

I think you'll need a new carrier too.

This is gonna make the project easier. Most of the yards near me have v6's, but none had 4s. I'm going to buy the whole front and rear diff of a V6 auto. Screw a new carrier, I'm getting the whole thing.

bleh!

After RC on Sat I was getting a weird scraping sound coming from my brakes at under 5mph. NO wobble, shimmy, or other undesirable symptoms other than that noice and very low speeds. I went to my buddy's place (guy who is helping me with rock rails and many other projects) to check it out. Turned out it was just some debris, but we got otehr stuff accomplished while he had it yesterday.

1: Got an Optima Red Top for an insanely cheap $80 (more available)

2: Pounded in the pinch welds (pics coming tomorrow)

3: Checked the rear diff for my gearing and reported that the plate says 3:73.

That means the search is back on for a wrecked 4cyl :(

Sorry to hear about the gears. 4:10 will be harder to find. Good look finding them.

Red top for $80 is a great price. What about Yellow? My heavy duty electrical needs call for deep cycle.

Same price. $80. It will be a 34/78-OY

If you want, I can get one for the trip you make up here to PAP or RC. Or ship it if you need it fast, or meet somewhere in the middle if you don;t want to pay for shipping OR wait :P

I found out about the gearing a little more.

the 3:55s only came in the 2005-2006 6cyl Manuals.

2004 and earlier still used 3:73.
