| Post subject: | Rusty's 2.5 inch lift install...ADVICE NEEDED |
Hello all, So my buddy came over today (friday) we decided to tackle the installation together. Cold beers, nice warm day, plenty of tools...seemed like things were gonna be fun. Took off the front drivers side strut assembly and compressed the spring in order to get the strut out. When we placed the original strut next to the new one...THEY WERE THE EXACT SAME SIZE!!!! Yes, the springs were different in length, the new ones being a big longer as expected. But the struts...both identical in length and size. So we were both concerned, but continued on, hoping that the idea was that the new spring wouldn't necessarily raise the vehicle 2.5 inches, it just wouldnt let the vehicle squat as much when all the weight was put back on it. So we assembled everything and put everything back together. We whipped out a measuring tape and found that the new setup only gained my gf's liberty an extra 0.75" of lift, instead of the reported 2.5 inches. Needless to say, I'm beyond furious right now. Now i have to wait until monday to give rusty's a call and let him know what the situation is. The one thing i did notice was that the box with the struts had on them had part # R932 Gas REPLACEMENT Strut OE 14175. What bothers me is use of the word "Replacement" and the letters "OE". Anyone have any insight to this? Does the OE mean what i think it means (Original Equipment) and that maybe the number scheme means "This R932 model strut replaces the OEM strut with model # 14175" Someone please tell me that I'm wrong and that even though there are dozens and dozens of reports that Rusty's is known for their HORRIBLE customer service, I'm one of the lucky ones to get the right parts and that I'm doing something incorrect with the installation. |

The struts are the same size/length. The lift comes from the springs, they are a bit longer and stiffer than the factory ones and a witch to compress. After a week or so the rusty's will sag back down to original height. Ditch the rusty's and get an ome lift. The ride of the rusty's isn't bad, they just sag. |

I know that when I installed my brand new rustys lift, the springs appeared to be the same hight...but then i realized that the spring rate was stiffer. |

As far as I know and read in many posts... Rusty's kit only sags on CRD models in the front only and even that can be corrected by OME790 springs. -c |

-c not completely true Rustys coils have been known to sag on the regualr gasser but not all and they are the same spring rating as the stock coils |
