for most people its easier to say" throw a locker on it " than to do it. For the front, the diff has to come all the way out and then have someone with the right tools to do it, also takes some $$$ then if youre going with a locker why not go 4.10s and so more money, then you think maybe I should upgrade the axles,....yep more money,

You know this whole thing is about ...money

i blew my front diff. so i had to take it out to fix it...i really is not that hard...i put 4:10's and an ARB and axle collar...all these things will help i got a ARB for $700 i used a cheaper air compressor that i already had...the axle collar cost $35...my diff is stronger because my wheel spin is limited and the axle collar...i think the cost of a locker is worth every peny...oh did i metion the price for the new front diff? about 1400 dollars...i just wished i had the locker befor this happend.

$1,400.00, I take it you didn't get one from the junk yard like most of us do.

I bought mine brand new,at least I new all the bearings seals where good and I didn't have to worry about how much mileage/wear and tear there was on it if I bought used.At the time there where zero 4 banger KJ's around the area I was at and gears could only be gotten at the dealer, but it was more piece of mind because it came with a warrenty.

Here’s my idea, you guys tell me what you think. I really like the height of the JBA’s 4” lift. However, the KJ is my daily driver and I’m not ready to slap some 32 inch tires on yet. Due to saving a little gas mileage, I’m thinking about installing the JBA lift and continue to run my stock wheels and tires. Eventually, I might add spidertrax wheel spacers which will help stabilize the KJ a little better. But if I retain the stock wheels and tires, I will not lose as much gas mileage as with going to the oversized tires, yet I will still have really good lift. I just rolled 7,000 miles on my factory tires, so I need to milk them for as long as I can. So what do you guys think? Is the KJ gonna look stupid with the JBA lift running on top of factory tires? Once we buy another fuel efficient vehicle, then I will dedicate my KJ as the official off-road beast and upgrade the tires as that moment in time. Thoughts?

You will lose some mileage just due to putting the brick up in the air 4 inches higher, but not as much as going to a say a 32 inch tire and 3.73 gears, will it look stupid , only you can answer that for sure, but I get this all the time, "that things looks great lifted but you need some bigger tires " and thats with Moabs and 255 70s, So if you can put up with that then go for it, BUT I would bet after lifting it youre going to want bigger tires real soon.
I do know what you mean about having it as a DD and trying to keep half way good mileage. I average over 32000 miles a year, but as soon as I can get some 4.10s front and rear will be going taller tires just due to I like the way it looks and feels!

I was playing around on the net one day and did a search for a web site that will look in junkyards for used parts. I found one, so I looked for the front diff. from a 2002 3.7 4X4. I found 2 of them! So they are out there. I think they wanted $400.00 in the one place and close to that in the other.

I can find 8 or 10 right now for the 3.7 motored KJs in that range around town here, found one for the 4 cyl. for 500. I think jerbacher paid in the 375 range for one (3.73 geared) with 35,000 miles or so to replace his "busted" one.

What happened to Test KJ #2 (Dennis), AKA: KJ pilot, AKA: Guest? I was hoping to hear more from him regarding his JBA kit. I’ve got cash setting here waiting to make a decision on a lift.
