I have read that what ever you are using to pull yourself out should be rated to twice the weight your vehicle. So for 4000 lb Jeep you would want an 8000 lb wench to come along. I mean an 8000lb winch or a come along

My kit consists of a set of MAXTRAX, a short shovel, an equalizing strap, a snatch strap (6 or 8t I cant remember), few shackles and a strap dampener. This is enough to get us out of most situations, mind you it's mostly beach work we do :)

Just my 2 cents. I have gotten my old Toyota out of a raven with 2 feet of mud using a $25 2 ton come-along. At the time that was all I could afford, well, I actually had to borrow that $25. On my old YJ I carried both a come-along AND a high lift jack and that combination got me out of some hairy situations. These days my off-roading consists of running over the curb at Target to get out of the parking lot faster so I now carry neither. What? I gotta use that DayStar lift and 245/75/16 BFGs someplace.

It's just the trends off times. The post is for information. I have the 245/75/16 tires . I am not buying a winch so just want the proper rated come along to play it safe.
There are novice and expert off roaders alike and we have welcome all.
I paid $25,000 for my jeep and upgraded the suspension. I don't plan on getting stuck down a "ravine" .
