So far I have 95K km on mine. I bought it used at 82K and will have to do the first maintenance on it this Wednesday. The bearings in the T-case are virtually gone and the throwout bearing on the clutch is on it's way out.

There have been a number of break problems reported - something about one of the rear brakes seizing and front brakes squeaking. Mine squeak off and on.

Definitely sit and haggle. I knew the previous owner of my liberty and knew what the stealership paid for it when it was traded in. Because of this I was able to get it for $500 over wholesale out the door. Not a cent more. Waived the documentation fee's and all.

You can also check out http://tinyurl.com/2bv59v for estimated prices in your area to give you a better idea of what you are looking at.

Yeah. He specifically asked about a LIBERTY for a reason. Otherwise, he would've titled the thread "What kind of Jeep should my girlfriend buy?" What's the deal with all the non-KJ-loving KJers around here all of a sudden?

Thanks I can read. Both hold their resale much better then KJ's do and the inline 6 is a great motor which is proven to last. If I wanted to buy a jeep with that kind of mileage that is where I would look.

I think it is true, that the inline 6 (4.0 right?) is an awesome engine that really lasts...good point...but I also think that the 3.7 will do 200k if proper oil changes are done...

Then maybe you need to work on your reading COMPREHENSION. They have classes for that.

this is like somebody asking "what kind of CD player should I get?" and saying "I have a two-knob Pioneer SuperTuner for sale! it's only 30 years old!" the XJ is NOT as good as the KJ. End of story.

Cherokee's Inline 6, A.K.A "the 4-leaker"... lots of problems with oil leaks. My brothers Cherokee has had the main seal "fixed" once already, but it didn't last. The oil leak has slowed somewhat, but it still goes through a quart of oil every couple of weeks and stinks like you wouldn't believe. I'll take my 3.7L over it any day.

Thanks guys, she ended up getting an Blue 02' Sport with 83K on it, everything appears to be fine with it knock on wood, except the heater doesn't work on 1 or 2 only 3 and 4. But I'll give it a good look over when i get home from college next week and make sure there is nothing hiding from us.
