not sure that would be benificial with the rising gas prices ...

right now for ~450km is on one tank of gas (approx distance to Maine is 550km from my place)... one tank to fill up now is ~$75 ... so round trip min $180 to Maine ... its easier and cheaper to deal with the customs charge right now ...

ps - I love carpools to work ... I am getting paid ~20$ a week and gas is covered as their bill :)

COD? Cash on delivery?

Wow so 230 in charges ... thats a high value ...

I just got a pair of Spidertrax spacers sent up over the border. The way it works with the COD is this: first, you pay a company to send something to you, including shipping. At the border, the brokerage fee is applied, since someone needs to import the product at the border. The fee for this brokerage service needs to be collected, so the shipper collects the fee upon delivery. He needs to be paid for collecting the brokerage fee, so he tacks on the COD charge. The government sees this opportunity to collect tax, and taxes the services. This is why a pair of $99 Spidertrax spacers cost a total of $175. (spacers, shipping, brokerage, COD fee, GST taxes), even though "shipping" itself is only $29.

I see this is an old thread, but I thought I would post it anyway. If you are shipping to Canada from the US, if the company allows shipping by USPS (US Postal Service) and then there is no brokerage fee. No one seems to be able to tell me why this is or exactly why Fed Ex and UPS have the brokerage fees (yeah I know to pay the broker), but you don't get on with USPS.

FEDEX and UPS charge you for their time importing the goods (paperwork), the post office doesn't....that's why.

where in NB are you?
I'm in Freddy. Found my lift on Kijiji in Ottawa, Lucky I guess. But like they suggest, get a place in the US ( Maine you can use the shop in Vancerboro at the Texeco). Ship to there.
Then go for drive!
