Finding someone local is not the same as a man having a BUSINESS of making the products. A business needs to make money not just come out even or do it for nothing beause he is a buddy.

A business has a reputation that is most important and can not risk making a product that has issues with it so, time is needed to make the product as flawless as possible.

The front bumper is being fabbed to be as usable, flawless, and name branded as possible. Issues of how the winch will mount differently has created setbacks. If RL wanted to make a winch connection like ARB's, then he would not have a unique product. Having a uniquely different bumper also sets you apart from the rest of the field.

ARB is a corporation that can mass produce. Most KJ products are created by single entities that must take longer.

Nobody here has been waiting longer than me for the front bumper. I am #1 in line after USAFCOP got to display the first prototype at Moab in 2006. I was to get Prototype #2 and I put money down for it. That design was completely scrapped. Well, mostly. I don't like the ARB and how far it sticks out and the Rockstar does not have winch capabilities (and the current issues the owner has created for himself). AllJ's is non-existent except for the four originals, and Trail Ready is waaaaayyyyy too expensive.

I agree with all you said, even your descriptions of the other bumpers out there. The local guy I have making mine is a business. Not a buddy deal. He didn't cut me any deal at all actually. All he does is make custom off road equipment, not on the side, all of his work he stands behind 100% as a business not as a guy trying to make some money on the side or try something new either. This is all he does. Maybe I am just lucky to have found a guy that can do it easier and cheaper, is an established business, guarantees everything, doesn't require me to pay up front and is local.

personally i dont think any of this is RL's fault. the company never gave a release date for the front bumper.. and those who preordered knows they were no made.. and expected to wait. like others.. i did not want to wait.. so i went with the old tried, true, and safe. however when it comes time for a rear bumper or sliders.. of course i'll be calling rock lizard..

just one more quick comment on this since quite a few peeps posted up.

the above is incorrect at least in my situation when i ordered. i was guaranteed
that the bumper would be at my doorstep ( if i remember correctly ) 2 months
after i ordered it. then was guaranteed again that i would get in a few more
months. after i got this message is when i canceled the order.

there has been three or four additional products that have been released
since the kj front bumper was originally released as a prototype...
not sure why, its kind of weird.

Same thing happened to me; I ended up canceling my order. But once I see that the front bumpers are out and an actual date of delivery, I’ll still order one. I didn’t like the thought of financing steel for other products while the one I ordered was in the back burner. Hey RL any dates??

I recently got mine, RL rear bumper that is. I put it on few weeks ago. We love it. I paid for it over a year and a month (early oct 07) or so before receiving it. The wait was well worth it. If and when I can afford the front one I will gladly pay and wait as well. RL has built exceptionally well products. Oh the super skink sliders are in my garage awaiting my attention now. By the way we have received several comments from other jeep drivers on it , and said they wished they could sport one as well. 8) I came out of the grocery store and this chick was taking pic's of our kj and freaking out that she wants one so bad. Hers was a bone stock metallic green kj probably 03-05 or so. I of course tried to recruit her to the site.

I know I'm going with a RL rear bumper when that time comes.
