I had a Ranger with a improperly balanced driveshaft. It never made any noise on the highway. It did shake the driveline when the driveshaft was turning (slowly) at just the right speed to create a whipping effect. I had the driveshaft rebalanced for $50.00 locally and that problem went away. So might be just me, and my limited experience with this problem: But I question why a driveshaft would make noise? u-joints make noise, metal rubbing on a bearing surface makes noise but a solid piece of metal that is missing a weight? Now that extended [un-treated] out of balance condition could have accelerated the u-joints wear out and then those would have needed attention. Or that same problem could have shook the pinion enough to cause the pinion bearing to end up out of tolerance, but that, to me, would only happen in really extreme cases or years of neglect.

So much is lost in translation on a forum. Or maybe it was the mechanic's choice of words but I would highly suspect the U-joints as a driveshaft problem that causes noise. But then again...

It's really hard to say when i m not a huge wrench monkey. I know what he's talking about when he tells me, but it is what it is at this point, im just glad to get the jeep back. I just hope nothing decides to resurface after throwing a chunk of change at it like this.

Still need to buy tires for crying out loud and fix a dent a deer decided to put in my door.

I seem to have noticed that warranty coverage varies betweent dealerships. Before I installed my lift I was told by my local dealership that it would not void my warranty that they were only concerned with the size of tires I would put on my vehicle. I still find this hard to believe since a lift kit will definately change the driveshaft & front axle/CV joint angles.

You've already gotten some good advice from the previous posts, I have nothing to add.

In most cases a 2.5" or less lift they will not say much but as you every dealership I've talked to say's it's the bigger tires that start voiding the powertrain part of the warranty.
