That is the Half Shaft...which connects the passenger side CV axle to the front diff... The grooves on the shaft wear down and the place where it connects to the CV wears down also.. Causing it to spin out of sink... and that is the vibration you feel going down the road.... The actual innards of the CV might be fine but where it connects to the half shaft is probably worn..

I'm sure there is a write up on how to remove the CV's somewhere on the forum...

$60 for a used one... $125-$200 for one from the stealership...
and then if your CV is toast... like mine.. 175 for a new cv...

Switch the front tires first though... I'd hate for it to be something that silly after you do some major work:lol:

Have you done this yet? This was probably the best advice here. I certainly wouldn't pull the front end apart until i checked the basics first. If you don't know what you are doing you might end up just making it worse. Wash your wheels, suspension and driveline parts; check your tire pressures; inspect and rotate your tires first.

ok now this just gets better :( i just went over a speed bump at about 10 mph not a very big one but I am now hearing what can can only be described as a click sound from the passenger front side. after i heard it, I went back over the speed bump a few times at different speeds between 10-15 mph and heard the click each time... so can that be in tune with all the other potential suggestions?

Sounds like the cv to me. I had a honda car (fwd) in H.S. and that was the sound it made click..click..click. when turning corners. I suspect yours is just beginning to wear therefore only noticeable at certain times. It will get worse until you change it/them.

well the click only the happened when I went over the speed bump and it only clicked once. like when the shock or strut was flexing or something was touching something else, if that the proper term to use. I am also wondering if the two issues are the same or 2 different problems...HMMM

Well there's only so much there that it can be. So goes the process of elimination. Still it sounds cv related to me.

I have the same problem right now. I checked and rechecked everything on the frontend and found out I had play on the cv joint going to the half shaft. I thought the cv would make noise only way you turn but that was not the case.

You have already checked your swaybar linkage? I have had the problem of that thing loosening up on several vehicles I have owned and would only be a half turn loose and would make a click/clack sound when i went over certain bumps and dips. I suggest this on everything with similar symptoms cause it is an easy fix but hard to identify. Well, was for me at first  . I have had all the other problems also... CVs, tire pulls, you name it.. But those arent all that common. So I wouldnt assume its something too crazy at first. :D

Here ya go...

Image

Tighten up them two bolts. The top one will be connected to your sway bar that runs across to the other side of the vehicle. It actually looks like its loose in the picture. Maybe its just me?

Let me know if it werked.

I'm able to move the cv up, down, in, and out there should be a little play but I shouldn't be able to rotate it around like that.
