That was somewhat true back in the 70's. Daylight hours you would get a fuel wasters ticket of $5.00 . Kept lots of 5's in the car, patrolmen did not give change. At night - back to normal tickets. You really don't want to hit a deer at 120+ anyhoo.

I got a few back then. :) OK - maybe lots of em. 8)

Then I grew up.

Thanks for the info to watch for rust there, but wouldn't this be just as much of a problem when driving in rain? In fact, since you spend much more time in rain than fording, and since the water being splashed around on a wet road is moving at high speed (= high pressure) compared to usually slow speeds when fording, it seems like any water that gets in there will happen more in the rain.

Isn't it convenient how I've rationalized it so we can keep on fording without a worry?

I just read someplace that the Interstates out in West Texas have an 80 mph speed limit (definately rural area).

I've always been curious about water crossing/deep water fording, and prepping a vehicle for that kind of duty. I know more or less how to prep the TJ for it, with breather tube extensions, etc. I hadn't realize the KJ was so vulnerable, or so it seems to be.

I don't think rain would be a problem. It's when you soak the axle under water that it will get into this spline connection.
