Thats weird that they don't have the tool. Because when you buy Mopar skids new from online retailers, they come with the tool.

Also in that picture, you can see the awesome "tool" that Jeep sent out for them before they discontinued it.

I am assumin that the tool in question is just the black bolt and nut. cause it is longer? Then screw the rivet all the way down to the bottom of the bolt, put the bolt and rivet up to the hole and with the nut on the backside of the hole, tighten the nut until the rivet seats itself into the hole? WEW!! Did I get it right?

Nutzert install Tool

The “nut” on this tool, has no threads; you hold it still while screwing in the bolt, to keep the zert from twisting in the frame. Make your own tool with a nut large enough to spin on the bolt. Add a washer between the “bigger” nut and the zert to be sure the pressure is not just on the outer rim. The bolt needs to be long enough to catch all the threads of the zert when you start.

Start the bolt-nut-washer in the zert. Insert the zert into the frame. Hold the “large” nut steady with a wrench while screwing in the bolt. This pulls the zert down, spreading it out like a pop-rivet.

Yes. It is the black bolt and nut.

That sounds right to me.

This says to turn the nut, not the bolt.

67Customes, I couldn’t find the specific thread you referenced. However, the tool from Jeep has a “nut” with no threads – turning this nut would have no effect. Holding this “nut” from turning will keep the zert from turning in the frame – a must.

See MOPAR instructions at http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... rts#182260

The "nut" is not on the backside but between the bolt head and the zert.

EDIT Added: I should have reread your first post in this thread. You referenced an instructions PDF that shows you what you need to do. On page 1, the boxes on the bottom show the use of the install tool. 1. The thread-less “nut” goes on the bolt, 2. The bolt (with “nut”) threads into the zert, 3. The zert is pushed up into the frame, the “nut” is heald still while the bolt is screwed in.

Again, to make your own tool, use a nut that is large enough to spin on the bolt.

Good Luck!

Not correct!

So sorry. I'm not sure why I linked you to Bing. Here is the thread I was talking about...
http://fjr1300.info/howto/rivnut-tool.html

I see exactly what you are saying for the tool in the PDF. However, I was talking about the one I made. Which is a longer bolt, a nut and a washer. I didn't know if it worked like the "Mopar" tool or if I should use it like suggested on the site I posted. After thinking about it for a while, it should work either way. I will most likely be using it like the "Mopar" tool since I can torque it to spec. Can do that by turning the nut.

Thanks for all your help.

Looks like you got it -- the URL you included, would "Use one hand to keep his anvil from turning." where Jeep uses the "nut" without threads. Also this writeup shows what will result if the hole in his anvel is to large -- that is why I said to use a washer between the oversized nut, that you hold still, and the zert (for anyone making their own install tool).
