Ok, I just gotta ask. I just do scrappin in the mud in my KJ. She is just to pretty to climb rocks with! We use our FSJ for that stuff. So, then am I safe to put the running boards on? I love the look of the chrome tubes, but if they are going to cause problems even just muddin, then I don't want them. Any advise would be appreciated.

I take mine off before any offroading. Bought a cheap ($50) set of wheel ramps (plastic type stuff about a 6 or 8" rise) which I use when I remove mine. Gives me enough ground clearance to slide under and pull the bolts at the frame. 4 per step rail. I don't even take the mounts off the steps, just remove the whole assy. DO leave one nut hand threaded on one mount before moving to the other one and removing all the nuts on that one. Then REMOVE YOURSELF from under the step, reach under while supporting the step and take off the last nut. I learned the hard way that if you don't do this the step is likely to fall down and smash you in the head or male parts. I would recommend safety glasses or goggles as little flakes of stuff WILL fall in your eyes.

The step mounting brackets are very flimsy in regards to whacking them on something. While they will support over 250 lbs standing on them, they bend very easy from any rock or even a good soft ground contact. Remember the whole weight of the KJ is then on them.

We went to Paragon and one of the guys tore his off entirely. He came back with it on the roof rack. I went over a curb with mine that was higher than the step. It bent the step up and back at a wicked angle. I torqued it back into place by jumping up and down on the step but the bracket still looks bent from the underside.

Long story short; if u like the look at least remove them before offroading, rockrails are better.

Aren't boulder bars for serious climbing and crawling, or as a friend of mine calls it "stump jumping"? I only and I stress only take my jeep in the mud. :D Y'all probably think it is a bit of a waste, but my Jeep doubles as my "sweet ride" and I keep her in tip top shape. I am still learning about what all these trick parts are for.

Boulder bars are for any situation in which your rocker panels may encounter anything that might damage them.

And my Liberty stays nice lookin, I just beat the hell out of it:)

Do the OEM Renegade Rock Rails hold up? Obviously, they aren't as heavy as Boulder Bars, but I just wanted to know I I'm going to loose them on Elephant Hill...

Your mileage may vary, but for me, no. I currently have the OEM Rock Rails that came with my Renegade. They have done their job, but they have quite literally given their all in doing so. Both sides are scraped and gouged from end to end. I'm talking gouges that cut completely through the metal in places. And both sides are bent so much that the center of the rail is almost touching the body. And this damage has been from just moderate wheeling. If you have them, then use them, but plan on replacing them with something sturdier and probably sooner than later.

So, what is this Elephant Hill?

Remember? Those are round.... well, I've got the "squared" ones on mine - all original equipment - well.... they became square after MOAB - Those are going to the garbage and I'll be using my Boulder Bars. Thanks CLINT....

Elephant Hill is a ridge near Moab. It's in the Needles district of Canyonlands NP. check out the link:

As for getting boulder bars, that's what I expected. I may just take the leap sooner, so I can put the OEM back on if I ever sell it. Heather is going to love me for all the upgrades this Libbly is going to get from AllJ. Looks like the roof rack is just as delicate...
