hmm, yeah I've got the 1/2" flavor. Hopefully 2 of them will get me through.
My last issue: I had a tough time getting the old locktite off of everything last night after the 30mm socket slipped. I wonder if the nut can be tightened down dry? The tube says it sets in 20 mins, but in this dry desert it was more like 10 mins. And then I'd just put some at the edge of the nut, let it cure, and call it good.
I guess since the manuals don't mention lubing it, it should be fine? :furious:

Cool, I should be good then. Did you tighten the nut down soaked with locktite, or dry? I had a fun time trying to scrape, soak, and brush all of the old locktite out last night after the 30mm slipped :furious:

Well, like you said, it takes an incredible amount of force to crush the crush sleeve. After using about a 5' cheater bar, I was finally able to get it dialed in. I had good luck getting it to budge about an 1/8" at a time, and crept up from 8 to 10 to 13 in. pounds. Lots of off and on the with the spanner wrench, and now I'm waiting for the RTV to dry. Another reason I opted to not change the pinion bearings was because the previous owners lived in the city. The backlash was still at the minumum spec of .005"

I can't believe that 1/2" breaker bar held, it was flexing inches! 500 ft pounds easy (I was almost hanging on a 5' cheater bar).

I just ended up letting red locktite soak on to the end of the nut for a little insurance, but I doubt the new nut needed it.

good times
