That rear bumper is nice but OH MY GOD!!!

1,800.00 is outragious. That just ended the discussion for me. I will stick to plastic for now and wait to get a RL rear bumper.

Sorry dude, we are insane about our mods but not that insane.

Haha guess I am the only insane one... What would be a reasonable price??? Take into account price of material, cutting, welding, fitting, powdercoating, and also work hours to do the job. Trailready has the front bumper for 1000, that isnt including the bull bar and a couple of other options you can get... if you get all the options for the front the price is about 1300. then about 200 or so for shipping if I remeber right. ( I never prices ARB, didnt like the look too much) Now figure that into a rear bumper which has actuall moving parts like the tire carrier, the hitch which you need to make strong enough to hold the weight of the things you are towing... Now all that taken into account, how can they be made at a cheap price if there isnt enough sold, if there was a demand like lets say a wrangler, which bumpers are in the 400 to 600 dollar range. then it would be feasable to get the price down to that range, but for right now it just cant be done for that kind of price front or rear. I am not trying to be a punk, nor am I upset about any of this so please dont take it that way... just trying to show you why they are as much as they are for now.
Thanks again fellas all is appreciated (good and bad).
It all helps me think of more crap to keep my mind busy aside from work. haha

go to Rock Lizard's website and take a look-see at their rear bumper...

$1800 is a LOT of money...and you're right about the economies of scale...but we're still talking about a bumper that is ONE FIFTH OR MORE of what a lot of newer members paid for their KJ's, including myself (2 1/2ish years ago)

I can justify $1800 in suspension...I can justify $1800 in stereo equipment...I can justify $1800 for drivetrain stuff...but I REALLY can't justify $1800 for a bumper that almost nobody has seen in person. Remember...you're not competing for completely disposable income like you would be with Unimog or Hummer stuff; most of us ain't rich, and we SAVE for what we buy, sometimes for months

I did go to that site. pretty good deal. I will show that to the owner and let him know that there are better deals out there. I also didnt say that the 1800 was the price for sure... It is a guesstimate. One thing to look at though, the size of RL bumper is smaller than the one I have which has a lot more material. Mine is pushed out on the corners to protect the spare tire and also has tail litght guards, and reverse light ports... I understand that we are not rich. I for one am no where near that either. I have to work my butt off to save for what I want.

The RL rear is made for maximum clearance for offroading on rocks, shaved corners and tucked in as much as possible and still be very strong and functional. No extra non-needed bulk but very strong.

I did see that and liked that it was tucked under. It looks well built, and I was not trying to say that it wasnt. The two sing outs are awesome only one thing I do see wrong, with the Hilift on there you cant open the window without opening the swings on both sides.... The new rear I have a design for is also for rocks, and is going to be tube to match the new front I had made. The one on the kj now was not made for that kind of offroading on rocks. was made big to match the front. and be functional when I go hunting. The sides also help too because they can be used as steps to get things onto or off the roof of the jeep.

its made from 3/16" material, right? Whats the rear weight? I made my own and right now Im pushing $100 in materials and $50 of that was for my hinge for the tire carrier and I guarantee its strong enough for the KJ b/c the hitch I used came off of a full size truck and I used about 2-3 libs of rod welding it to the mounting points, how does the rear mount? is it angle? and whta size 2x2x1/4?
