From what I have seen so far of 4x4ing, I like the limits of 33's, and 4 inch lift. That is about as far as I wanna go with a vehicle like a Jeep. If I wanted more than that, it would make more sense to build up a rock buggy from the ground up or buy a beefy quad. You will end up spending just as much breaking stuff on the Jeep, so you might as well just buy the rock buggy from the start.

I just started reading this thread and I keep seeing people writing about how limited the KJ is. I'm running a spacer lift that has sagged so much that I'm almost back to the stock ride highth, I have no lockers, dang near bald MT/Rs, but lots of armor and practice. I have been on trails that say you need 35" tires or 33" tires with lockers and, with good lines and even better spotting, I've made it through with no body damage and only 1 or 2 tugs with a tow strap per year. I do spend quite a bit of time riding on skid plates but that's what they are there for. If you come out and wheel with LOST Rockies, I think you'll find that you can get just about anywhere you want to go with the KJ. The few places you won't be able to go with the KJ are places you would need a dedicated rock crawler that needs to be trailered to the trail.

Caveat: It is easier to mod a Wrangler (not necessarily cheaper) to make getting to those places easier. Wheeling a KJ is more difficult, requires a much more delicate touch, and completely different lines than a Wrangler.

To quote someone else from this board, "It's not what you can do with your Jeep, it's where you can go." Sorry, I can't remember whose signature this is and thus can't give credit to whom it belongs.

That quote is from Sir Sam

With that much lift on a JK you would look silly on 33's. I am pretty sure they can run 33s at stock height.

With the JK you can run 33's stock if you don't disco the sway bar. If you do you just need a front leveling kit. With a 2.5" lift you can run 35's and 37's on a 4 inch.

There's a little confusion in the quotes above. I'm the one who is building the JK, not KJ Taz. And I didn't say that running 33's would look silly. A JK with 3" - 4" lift running 33's would not necessarily look silly, there are many who do it. I'm putting a diesel in my JK and plan to tow a small camper with it, so keeping the tires to a conservative size no bigger than 33's is a better choice for towing. Going back to the same theory as the KJ, you don’t need a huge lift and big tires to achieve great results when going off-road. I’m guessing that 95% of all people on this forum will never take their KJ to extreme measures.

If you only plan on running 33's with a diesel just go with a high spring rate in the front up to about 2" of lift. Jeep will perform much better than running a tire size 4" smaller than the lift was designed for.

That’s a valid point and I will most likely install front lift components (spring rate) that is being used in Europe to accommodate for the heavier 2.8 diesel.

OME makes a 2" HD for the JK's too.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the OME 2" for the CRD, correct?

No for the JK's they have a HD coil to offset the weight increase of steel bumpers and winches. Should help offset the weight difference between the gasser and a the oil burner. They may make a CRD specific coil for the euro version though, dunno...

I’ll be looking for the Euro version because I want a bumper and winch to go along with my diesel! 8)

Let it be known that there is a lot of confusion...........................................That quote was not from me. I never wrote anything about a JK as I don't own one. I own a TJ as I stated in this thread.

This is what I wrote:

KJ Taz wrote:
Main reason my TJ is still sitting on 33's after owning it for 3 years is I like to drive it to the trails. Most people I know have built their Jeeps so big they have to put them on a trailer to go anywhere. To me part of the fun of Jeeping is getting to the trails. I will always be the little guy on the trail whether its in the Libby or the Rubi. Guess it suits me just fine.
