Can we back up a minute...

Tahoe you wrote; "it used Rancho shocks...", but the lift kit I see on the BDS website states "BDS shocks" in the rear. It also states BDS new "Pro-Ride coil springs", do you or anyone else know if these are med or HD rated springs?

One last question not specific to Tahoe's quote... Does anyone know (or know how to figure out) what other vehicles use the Rancho RSX 17505 shocks? My thought was, if I could cross that info, maybe I could also find BDS shocks that would work since they don't list or offer front shocks in the kit.

FWIW, I've read nothing but excellent reviews including articles on BDS systems in general (mainly regarding TJ's, JK's & XJ's) and am wondering if their KJ kit might be excellent too?

AHHH Tahoe was drunk that day.....the reason why he didn't notice the BDS shocks that were installed on the rear
From what I have seen they are in the 350/375 range or so about like the OME light or medium duty

listen to tom he knows his stuff :)... i'm a firm believer if waiting until you can do it the right way the first time... for me that was the frankenlift. i installed it myself and it's been trouble free for 25000 miles. the OME lift is the same quality (since it uses much of the same parts).. but less height since it lacks the spacers the frankenlift comes with. you can get more height out of the OME lift with some tricks and still keep the cost down. i agree with tom OME springs (front and rear), Rancho shocks (Front and rear). however i would add 3 conduit nuts per side in the front.. and an extra rear upper iso in the rear. it will tack on another $30 but give your jeep a great stance and very nice height.

I think I'm going to go with the OME struts, I just emailed my local jeep place and asked them for a quote, depending on what they say I may just try to use my works automotive shop and install it on a Saturday with some buddies.

What are conduit nuts and a rear upper iso ? Where would I get them?

2 inch conduit nuts are a common hardware part for securing pvc and what not against a wall and such

Image

those taped together things are 3 conduit nuts stacked and taped together

rear upper coil iso's are a rubber doughnut sort of deal that you can get from a dealer for about 45 bucks for 4

can probably get the iso's cheeper online i'd think

Alright, what Tom suggested is looking more and more like what im going to do.

Questions about the frankenlifts, The website has 4 lift kits, what will be the difference in the premium vs standard lifts?

Is OME better then rancho? Or just that particular instance?

And If I was able to wait and not spend the money I've been saving for this, and got the Frankenlift II Premium how much height would that give me?

And since its pre-assembled...then it would be easier to isntall?

Thanks again guys, I really appreciate all the information. I do want to do it right and I may be able to wait another couple weeks before I buy a lift and save up for the Premium Frankenlight II

BDS informed me the spring rate is 410lbs. This would be comparable to the HD OME springs.

Some like OME shocks better but they are valved a little softer, too soft for me
All frankenlifts for gasser will give you the same amount of lift, only difference is in the shocks.
Easier to install, not really only thing is they are preassembled, meaning you do not have to break them down , everyone I have done at home here I take to a neighborhood repair shop, takes them less than 10 minutes and lots easier than me doing it! As far as everything else its all the same. Also make sure you have a couple of rachet straps available , they come in handy, esp. on the drivers side

Was curious so I called BDS and the guy said that the fronts were 430lbs and the rear were 210lbs. What is the rating on the OME HD rear springs.

Too bad no one who has contacted BDS asked why front shocks weren't included in their lift?

If you look on their web page it says base kit price. If you look farther it comes with hydraulic shocks, you can upgrade to gas for more money or you can have the ones that come with the base kit excluded for about a hundred less.

Yes that is just for the rear, you will need to buy new struts for the front.
